I was on lupeys web page comparing the 1" tube to a 30mm. The MOA adjustment is the same. So what is the advantage to going with the fat scope.

I think the precise difference is 4.6 mm.

The functional difference is the opportunity to have larger glass and bigger internal components and a stiffer tube. So should be a performance and durability advantage for the 30mm.

buckkiller,

If they don't use smaller lense so they can have more adjustment, none.

I've read that the only advantages are strength of the tube, albeit in reality this marginal, and there's greater elevation adjustment available for extreme long range shooting.

Mostly, IMHO, it's about marketing. Something that's been around Europe for years that manufacturers can try to create a new market for in North America...and thus get a lot of gun owners to change up at least some of those millions of one inch tubed scopes out there.

We hunters tend to want to have the latest and best, eh?

...that said, my next new scope will probably be 30mm. smile

I was going to do the 4.6mm answer, but was 3 hours late to the show.

I've got 4-50mm and 4-56mm scopes and have no trouble focusing any of them.Evidently you've never owned a Zeiss scope.
