Hello, I'm going to stock this rifle and I'm not sure what is a original screw for the forearm. This one is a bubba special. The rifles is a mid 20's gun. Any pics or suggestions? Thanks.

If the threads are correct that one might be OK.
Original is 8-40.

Thanks for the info Lightfoot. I thought there may have been a escutcheon to go along with a screw.

Yes, there should be an escutcheon in there too. They're impossible to find now.

An aluminum piece of tubung works very well. Done right, the screw head hides it. To repair that, I'd either try to match in a piece of walnut, or go with and inlay, maybe something German Silver. Try the blackpowder books for a silver inlay.

Jimmy I check my pm's. I didn't get one? It's been awhile since I logged in, maybe somethings changed? Still had some old ones in there though.
The tubing is a good idea, thanks. I'll post some pics as things progress. It's my father in laws, his fathers before that. It's in tough shape. Holes for scope will have to be filled and script restored and the curved butt plate was replaced with a flat piece of aluminum with the top notch filled with a piece of walnut. I did manage to get a couple butt plates off ebay, one a shotgun style and one the curved plate. The latter costing me $180, wow. Scarce I guess. I hope it'll clean up well enough to use.

I finally got my wood back from the duplicator. The old stock had been cut down to remove the cresant butt plate. I did manage to find another but a little rough and metal is NOT my strong suit. Some of the available reproduction Marlin and Winchester plates look real close. Has anybody used one? I'll have to inlet it anyway so as long as it's not too long or wide it'd work. Here is a picture of the wood. I look forward to getting this rifle back in shape and in the field.

beautiful wood and the grain is going the correct way thru the grip. often times production guns have bad grain direction and very predictably, it breaks at the grip! again, beautiful exhibition grade wood!

Very nice wood. Keep the pics coming as you make progress.
Everything you now do is something you have chosen to do. Some people don't want to believe that. But if you're over age twenty-one, your life is what you're making of it. To change your life, you need to change your priorities.
