Here are a couple of links to patent documents for some interesting mods

The double set trigger looks like an interesting option.

It would seem like the bee's knees on a 32-40 octagon barrel with a Lyman target front and a 30 1/2 tang sight.

and I think that second one is a dandy way to empty the rotor .... no more cycling the lever to " evacuate " the cartridges ......

Let me get this straight. By pulling back on the rear trigger until it bottoms out against the set screw, you are pulling the sear engagement of the front (main) trigger almost to the point of disengagement. A touch against the front trigger then finishes it. The way I read it, the key to the whole thing is the careful adjustment of the setscrew.

The upshot of it is the actual trigger pull of the set front trigger is no more and no less than it would be un-set. The percieved length of pull on the other hand would be like nothing, hence it would feel lighter, maybe, and certainly an aid to "snatching" the shot when the sight picture is perfect.

I have worked with double set triggers on many different rifles in my life, and I love them. Mausers (2 currently), Mannlicher-Schoenauers, a Winchester HiWall, and several muzzleloaders. Traditional double set triggers differ from Nelson's patent in that they utilize the nose of the rear trigger (most commonly) to fly up and knock the sear out of engagement after being tripped by the front trigger. The upshot of this means not only an extremely short trigger pull (almost nonexistent) but a much lighter than normal pull also. Downside is a long hard pull of the front trigger if used un-set. (Some can't be used un-set) They definitely take some getting used to, but once mastered there is nothing sweeter.

I wonder if any of Nelson's triggers were ever made? It is certainly an intriguing idea. Let's see. I have these pieces of tool steel...

I've often wondered why Savage didn't incorperate a device similar to Schoenauer for the unloading of the magazine. Looks like Nelson did but, Savage never produced even though I wish it had been.
