Anyone want to venture a guess at a starting load in a Ruger BH?
Remmy brass and winchester primers, if that matters.
Can't seem to find any data on this combo, any help much appreciated.......

I found 20 grains of H110 worked for me on a Rossi 92 and a Colt Anaconda.

Hodgdon's starting load for a Speer 300 gr. jacketed flat point is 21.8 grs of H110, max load is 22.2.
Loads for a Hornady 300 XTP show 20 starting to 24 max of H110, this in a .45 Trapper.
Oregon Trail shows a charge of 16.5 H110 for their 300 gr. Flat Point - no gas check, but this only goes 865 fps.
Some +P loads from Handloader #213 all show 23 grs H110 with the Speer PSP - these for Ruger, Freedom Arms and Colt Anaconda revolvers only.
Couple of loads for an LBT 300 gr bullet show 23.0 and 24.0 grs H110 in a .45 Colt Trapper.
Based on the jacketed bullet loads above, you're probably good to start at 20 grains with a 300 cast GC and would be good to go up to 23 grains at least and probably 24.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

Got you're data, any time. Sean... You'll hafta fill me in on exactly what Voodoo you have at your disposal. Was prepared to extrapolate jacketed data and wing it from there but figured I'd ask around here first in case someone had already hiked this trail.....

What kind of bullet? Keith, LBT or bulk style? Some do seat a little deeper, but yeah, 20 grs will work to start. Mag cap.

Traded my closest local shop out of some components with a set of cocabolo grips I had made. Primers is getting rare, and pricey... Had to wait a few days for a pallet of goods to arrive, and all he could get was winchester primers...I usually use CCI. Had to take notice of the winchester box stating "for regular AND magnum loads. Can't recall seeing that before...........

Yeah they are damn pricey,
A pard of mine uses them; seem to work fine, although he doesn't use them with H110/296 in cold weather. Only one way to know...
Do you have a lot of H110 with the same lot #? It varies a ton IME. I have it hit Max with 21 grs. and up to 25 grs. depending on lot. Same ambient temp, case, primer bullet, the full 9..
It does much better in the 44 with its compression.
Lil' Gun ignites easier with mid-mag loads in the Colt FWIW.
Good luck!

Can't recall seeing that before........... Been that way for years, at least 10 years, who knows before that. Whether or not you need "real" magnum primers or not for spherical powders seems to depend on the gun. My first .45 blackhawk didn't care. I shot a 270 grain (RCBS 255) SWC over 25 grains of Win 296. No accuracy difference between the Winchester large pistol ("magnum or standard") and Federal 155s or CCI 350s. On the flip side, it makes a big difference with the 300 grain LBT GC WLN's I'm shooting out of my Ruger SBH Hunter. I'm running 22.5 grains of 296 under them. A magnum primer (I'm shootin' CCI since that's what i could get when I worked up the load) cuts the 50 yard groups from around 6" to under 2". So ... just depends on the gun. If you're shootin' a .45 blackhawk, mike the cylinder throats and the bore at the forcing cone. My first one was tighter at the forcing cone and needed fire lapping to open it up. The second one had cylinder throats smaller than bore diameter and needed the cylinder throats opened up. Tom

I have a Ruger Bisley SS 5 1/2" barrel. I like the 300 grain LFN 300 GC. I use 22 grains of H110 in Top Brass brass with Federal Lg Mag pistol primers at about 1150 fps. I started at 20 and worked up. This is not a max load. I believe you can go up to 23 - 24 grains for over 1200 fps but this load does the job. Be careful with jacketed bullets you can't get the same velocity with them that you can with the lead bullets. Buffalo Bore Ammo has a 325 grain LFN and a 300 grain Speer jacketed soft point load at 1325 fps, that would be handful. Good luck.

4 and 5/8" BH here... Have for many years run 250 grain XTP's/Lil' Gun. Many more years before that my own cast 200 grain PB round nose, and still could as I still have the mold and about 450 pounds of linotype left, and an unlimited supply of wheel weights. Wanted a little heavier hammer tho', and to get away from the jacketed stuff per today's costs. Took the advice on the Lil' Gun and worked up from 19 to 20. Got just shy of 1100 fps out of this short barrel with the 20 grain charges. Shootability is nice, but would likely sting the average sissyboy with wood grips. Even with these Pachmayers it lets you know there's a little horsepower in there. Accuracy is fair, but considering I was only shooting it standing offhand over the chrony and wasn't necessarily trying to group anything. 35 yards.....

put up a pic of just the bullet, with no lube and I'll look around and let you know.

I knew about LBT's site/molds, but is there any others making a LFN LBT GC type 300 grain mold?
An "off brand" maybe, just for curiosity's sake, or someone who can cut one if I send 'em a bullet........

I think there was a guy named Applegate making molds a while back, but I'd bet if he's still doing them his prices are higher.
