Update to plans for the Jack O'Connor Winchester Model 70 Commemorative. Caliber .270 (of course), to be introduced at SHOT SHOW next January. Gun reportedly will be introduced with the Version II of "Lost Classics" book of some more of Jack's unpublished work. No word of how many will be produced, but they will be special.
More later...

...And this issue by Winchester folks? Or an aftermarket endeavor?....What a great idea! My name will be on one. Old Cactus Jack inspired this young lad in years gone by to join him on outdoor adventures trails. I'll be forever grateful !

Put me down for one! I remember coming in from hunting in the late '60's, sitting in front of a roaring fire in my parents home, and re-reading Jack O'Connor stories for the thousandth time.

Winchester working this, no aftermarket. Wouldn't be surprised if the Jack O'Connor Hunting Heritage and Education Center was in some way benefited from this sale.
For you JO'C fans, you should go and support anyhow...sort of a pilgramage.

do you think it will look like a 1950's M70 with sights, steel buttplate and a classic stock?
I bet it will be a current production factory featherweight with the floorplate engraved proclaiming it to be a commemorative!

i grew up reading o'connor, which is the primary reason i visited his education center last summer and the only reason i used a 270 win exclusively for 25+ years. certainly was nice to see one of his custom 270s, along with his 30-06 and elenors' 7x57. i'm waiting to buy (and still waiting to see) a super grade out of south carolina.

I agree on the support and pilgrimage, as long as it's not just any other plain jane 70 you could buy without his name on it. It's got to have a personal touch Jack would have liked, or its just another 70 but with his name on it. A exact replica Bison stock on each would be a good start!:) Bill

No word on specifics of design, other than it would be a Featherweight configuration. Input made that it mirror his favorite, his #2 of a pair he dubbed his pets. Am sure no sights. Price point $1100-1200.
No gun produced yet, not even prototype, so no pictures. Would certainly be nice if it could mirror the Biesen-stocked rifle.
More as this develops...

I'll be in line for one. Been itching for a nice wood/blue .270 and this sounds like it.

IF it has the Biesen style stock I'll be on one like a fat kid on a M&M...
Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

Count me in for one as l am a longtime O'Connor fan and have read most if not all of his books. I also began using the 270 Win quite a number of years back and with handloads consisting of 150 Nosler Partitions and H4831 it has taken its share of deer, moose and bear over the years.
I would suggest that an appropriate name for this rifle would be The 27 O'Connor.

I probably wouldn't be reading this post if it were not for Mr. O'Connor. Forty five years after my first rifle and I am still reading about Jack and his guns. If it is truly close to #2, I'll have my checkbook ready!

More later... Your information is accurate and I am delighted that the word has gotten out about the commemorative. Bradford O'Connor, Jack's little boy

If this is Bradford O'Connor posting here, we are fortunate indeed and a hearty welcome to the 24HCF! I've been buying tickets to the JO'C Heritage Center's Biesen rifle raffles (with fingers crossed each time), so if a Biesen stock copy is part of the package, I'll put my name on one today! I learned to shoot from JO'Cs writing and still read anything that surfaces.
