Found an older one today at the LGS. Don't have the all the info, but it's definitely walnut stocked. No checkering of any kind. Everything looks originasl. Probably 85% condition. Thinking about pulling the trigger on it as one like it has been on my to-get list for a while. And it's not going to be a show or investment piece. It will see woods time.

$299 with bases rings and el-cheapo scope.

What are they going for in your area? Do you think this a decent deal or should I continue looking?

Thanks for your input.

Sounds about right for my area (SoCal) but we don't see very many in that chambering. I'd definitely think about it and I already have two of them.

Seems like a good price to me. Here's one that may be comparable to what your looking at:

$250 with the scope, used. Oregon.
Not common, nor popular.

Don't really care about it's popularity. Besides, desire is personal. Not going for the popular vote. 35 Rem is what I want whether the general public thinks they need one or not.

But thanks for the reply. I'm thinking of offering $275. We'll see how it pans out. There will be another if this one passes by.

If you like it and can get it for $275, seems like a good price from what I see out there. Even $300 out the door...

Seams a O.K. deal if it is clean . We almost never see a used 35 in S.E . Ok. I would like to find a deal on a used straight stock one myself for my son . A straight stock anything is hard to find here also.

Meant to say...unpopular in Oregon. (But I've got one!)

The last two I have bought have cost $225 and $165, respectively. The $225 gun was in 90%+ condition, whereas the $165 model is around 75% (but should clean up fairly well).

Marlin .35's are very popular in this area, and are difficult to find used.

Cabela's in MICH was asking $350 for one about 5 months back.Nice walnut stock, and everything was in nice shape. I did not buy it as they seem overpriced on all their guns.

$225 would be a sweet deal on this rifle. That price would never happen at this shop. This guy gets top-dollar for his guns. It's probably the one thing that kept me from leaping on this one at $299. I'm just not a big fan of the guy that owns the shop. I have yet to make an offer. I thought I might sit on the sidelines for a couple weeks, at least until after the next gun show I'm headed to in 2 weeks. If it's still there then, maybe I'll make an offer. If not, there are 2 other shops close by and I think if I keep looking, one will turn up at a place I'd rather do business anyway.

I'd guess that you would be exceedingly lucky to find a used 336 of any flavor for less than $350 + tax. The local "entrepeneur" takes used guns, strips them of any parts they didn't come from the factory with, marks each part 5% - 10% below retail and puts them on the shelf. Since the 35 Rem. is probably not a hot commodity (I have been told I'm one of the few customers for ammo of that sort) it's possible that it could sit on the shelf for 6 or more months at which point he might throw in a box of ammo or knock another 5% off - enough to pay the local tax.

I have seen them go for $225-$350 in my area. It all depends on want, season, and condition. I believe I would go talk to the dealer and see if he might be willing to deal as they are not the hottest selling guns on the rack.
I have 2 of them but I, also, have a brother in law with a pawn shop/gun shop.

I would snap it up. While not a bargain basement price, that seems pretty solid. I think that's about $100 less than what you would pay for one around here.

Asking prices seem to be up lately, even though most seasons are over (we have another 2 weeks of a special doe season). I'm a real fan of the Marlin 336, prefer the older ones and have 4 in .30-30, 1 in 35 Rem. I like the 35 better, though both are extremely versatile with cast bullets. I've not had to pay quite that much for mine but I buy them when I can get them at my price. If that one talks to you, go ahead and buy it - you won't remember the price for long anyway. If the guy is a hgh dollar shop and priced it at $299 (which ain't that bad), he probably doesn't value it that much and might deal a little - maybe $299 and 3 boxes of factory loads. 35 Rem brass can be a little difficult to get if you reload as I understand it's a limited production run. If you don't reload, start! The 35 with cast pistol bullets is a cheap off-season plinking and practice load.

I seen one at the Omaha,Nebraska Cabelas. It wasn't in that great of shape, the wood was dull and nicked, the blueing was wearing thin and they were asking about $400.00 for it. I was thinking of selling mine for $150.00 until I saw that, now I want $350.00 minimum and mines in alot better shape then the one Cabela had for sale.

I recently traded a 95%+ condition pre-safety Marlin 336C in .35 Rem for $220 and about $180 worth of ammo.
$275 would be a good price on what is a fantastic deer rifle.
Guy I sold it to promptly killed 2 deer with it and was more than happy with the results.

I was at a gun show last weekend at a VFW Hall on Eastern Long Island, NY. There was a guy with 2, Marlin 336's in 35 Rem. for sale on his table. We were there early (10am) and my buddy picked up one for $310, and some other guy bought the other while we were waiting for my friends NICS check. I believe he paid the same amount as my friend, but the second gun was missing the front sight hood and was missing a white spacer under the buttplate. I don't think the neighborhood of $300 is unreasonable if the rifle is in decent shape. JMHO -Tom
