I have had several emials, PM's and phone calls from you guys over the past week. I thought this might be an easier way to get the message out that ...NO, Im not dead....I have just been back in the hospital since Tuesday withthis ole kidney acting up again. The oncologist/hematologist did a lot of tests to find out what was causing me to lose so much blood fromt he kidney and the tests came back as (drum roll please.......) von Willebrand Disease.. an inherited bleeding distorder due to lack of factor VIII. I have always bruised easily and been prone to nose bleeds but had never been tested for coagulation disorders until now. The GREAT news is that the kidey is STABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has shrunk from 10 cm to 3 cm. Im so thankful for that. No plans for any further surgeryu at this time until the von Willebrand's is under control. I did have a minor surgery while in the hospital that involved placing a porta cath under the scapula and under the skin so that I can get IV meds and have blood drawn without having to be stuck over and over again. My left shoulder is really sore from that but Im really grateful to have it over with. Now, when I need IV access, a needle will be inserted into the hub of the port, which is under the skin, and labs drawn or meds administered with only one simple stick. I am told that the more the port is accessed, the more scar tissue will form over the hub and I will no longer feel the stick when it is accessed. So...........here is what it looks like today..... [img]http://[/img] The dead center of the port is accessed monthly when it is not in use. For now, I will get a lot of use out of it as I receive Factor VIII at the oncologists office. Well.........that is about all I have to show and tell. Things are looking better for me. I appreciate all your prayers, love and concern. Especially the phone calls. You all mean so much to me. I took the pink fluffy robe and slippers you guys bought me to teh hospital again this time. I keep waiting for them to get hijacked by a nurse. Everyone who sees itme wearing the robe/slippers comments on how pretty they both are. I remain appreciative to you all for your gifts, but most of all. for your concern. LOVE TO YOU ALL!!!! Kat
