Here's a post from a guy on CGN. Anyone here seen this problem before?
So, When I put the rounds in the tube, pull the lever down, the bolt comes back and the feed tray drops, when I pull the lever back up the feed tray stays down. A guide friend of mine bought the same rifle and has now got the same issues. Has anyone heard of such problems or would know how to fix it?
Anyone know how to correct this?
Thanks, Ted

Hi Ted, There's got to be a Marlin service center in Canada I'd ship it to them. --- Mel

Is it touching the loading gate.Check the loading gate screw. Is it tight. The lever comes out easy.

.
I haven't seen a marlin do that. The carrier ("feed tray") does not "drop" when the lever is rotated forward, it is in the lowered position when the action is opened and remains so until the closing movement begins. The carrier is lifted by the lever on the return cycle (closing) then drops just before closing of bolt/lever.
The carrier is usually the part needing repair/replace, but the lever could be the issue, or both.

Now i have seen a Marlin do that! Yesterday afternoon a friends Marlin did not feed. Upon dis-assembly we found that dirt had accumulated behind the latch on the carrier. That latch engages the lever as action reaches full open. As the lever is closed the latch is cammed up and the carrier is moved up in front to align the incoming cartridge. If the latch cannot engage the lever, no movement is transferred and no cartridge is lifted.
