Does the Rainguard actually perform as advertised? Does it hold up on 30-06 calibers and above? Any tendency to track? Thanks, Dave

I really like the 6500's. The adjustment range is awesome. The only negative is their size and weight. I wouldn't use them on a lightweight rifle but for beanfeild guns etc. they are excellent...................................DJ

I have both of them and like them a lot. The 2-16 will get used a lot more as a hunting scope. But the 4.5-30 has earned it's place for testing loads. For the money, they are oustanding. The are so good, that I have brand new Meopta target scope ($$$) setting in its box, never mounted!
On my hunting rifles I use Bushnell, Kahles, Leupold, Meopta, Schmidt Bender and Zeiss Conquest scopes. And for targets, Bushnell, Kahles and Weaver. All of these will have a little flare when you have to shoot toward the sun

I got the 2.5/16*40 almost exactly a year ago, when they first came out. I have it mounted on a Tikka 243, pretty much my go to gun. This is a great combo. I have hunted it a lot, it has slid down hills and taken ATV abuse etc etc, not a safe queen. One year later I am as happy with the scope as I was when it was new.

I guess there is a slight distortion around the edge of the image. This cerainly doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the scope.

Is the adjustment (power) ring hard to turn?

The power ring is not difficult to turn. The eye relief is constant, regardless of magnification. POI is the same, regardless of magnification. The turrets are also resettable, ie. you zero the scope and can then pull out the turret, move it to zero and push it back down. This is a great feature if you shoot more than one load, I use both 85gr and 60gr bullets in my 243 and can easily switch between the two.

Solheim,
If they are like the Leupold, there is not much difference. When I called Leupold, the customer service told me when checked with an opotical measuring device, they detected 5% more light at the highest power with the 50MM over the 40MM.
For some this may be enough. I would certainly take a 5% raise in pay.

Looks like for 2009 Bushnell will be offering a 6500 in 1.25-8X36. This one is probably next on my list. I really like my Leupy 2.5-8, but twice the FOV at 100 yds is hard to ignore. Once the wife sees this, she'll probably be wanting it mounted on her rifle.

I have one in 2.5x16x40. I originally ordered the 2.5x16x50 and exchanged it for the 40mm objective model. The 50mm model was humongus, and the 40mm model isn't far behind, especially for a 22" barrel whitetail rifle. I have no complaints about the quality, but the size is overwhelming. Just my $0.02. (It has been delegated to a hunting rifle evaluator scope.) Alan
