Do I like the 444? Heck, is a four pound robin fat? I shoot my 444 at least 5X more than 45-70 or 44 mag. It's not something I can put into words, but I just shoot better with it. With a Lyman 66 receiver sight, I can cover 5 shots with my hand at 100 yards. No big deal as far as that goes, but it's hunting accuracy as far as I"m concerned. I like leadheads 300gr wide flat nose gas checked bullet. I use .431 only because he doesn't sell .432 bullets. With stiff doses of H322, it's an amazing round. See also the information on 444 Marlin on www.beartoothbullets.comHe lists extensive data and sells an excellent bullet. SW

Yup, I love m Marlin 444s! I will be using it again this year for my Bear hunt in a couple weeks. It is fun & accurate to shoot, easy to carry, has never given me a moments problem, not sure what else I could tell you. Do you plan to reload? If so I can give you some load info... .

Without a doubt, it's my favorite cartridge. I shoot the Speer 270 grain bullets over 46.5 grains H4198 (max) for about 2225 fps and just over 1 moa. IMO, it would be hard to beat for deer, wild hogs, or black bear (anything I'm likely to run into). With a tougher bullet, such as a hardcast, it would probably do nicely on the bigger stuff as well.

I like the round so much that I built a bolt gun around it. I load 250 Nosler Partitions as my primary big game load, and have had outstanding results, with one-shot instant, takedowns out to 250 yards on whitetail. I also load 180XTP's over H110 (max charge). This load is sub-minute out to 250 yards, and absolutely smokes groundhogs and crows out to 300 yards. www.LoadYourOwn.com list numerous loads for this round as well as many, many others.
Most of my money i spent on women and whiskey. The rest of it, I just wasted!

You need 180gr for crows ???? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> Ranger

You probably don't NEED 180's for crows, but you wanna talk about some cool 'ground effect' <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> My actual experience was 240's & a magpie! SW!
