I came across an striped AR10 lower at a price I couldn't pass up. About 1/2 price of listed cost on the net. Anyhow I didn't do my homework ahead of time like I should have and I'm not finding near as many options as with ar15's. The lower fits armalite parts but was wondering about other options. DPMS parts supposedly won't fit. I love my RRA ar's so that would be first choice if it would work.

If anyone has built an AR10 and has some sujestions to offer I'd appreciate the time. I was thinking a hunting wieght rifle.

If it's an Armalite style lower, that's what you will have. Your upper will be an Armalite type. Not a bad thing. As far as parts, you can use any AR-15 parts kit that will take care of many of the parts needed. A few part will have to be bought from Armalite to complete it that are AR-10 specific, takedown pins, bolt stop, mag catch to name a couple. You can also order a parts kit from Armalite.

The mags will be Armalite and though more expensive than some, they are more reliable than some as well.

Yeah... AR10's are not standardized the way AR15's are.

Should be a cool rifle once you get it up and running, though! And/or, if you got it for a good price there's a real market for AR-anything right now; you could flip it pretty easily I bet.

I could double maybe tripple my money today. But the guy that sold it to me gave me the deal based on me not turning it any time soon.

I'm in the process of building my first Ar10 (Armalite) I have the lower put together and waiting on Dtech to send the upper half.
One thing that is different from the above spot on opinions is that the hammer on the trigger is narrower than that of the AR15 breed. Not a big deal as these can be easily ground down to fit. Jard makes a nice AR10 specific trigger that is worth the look.

The way I look at, anyone that owns an AR15 may as well have the big brother also.

That's only on older AR-10 bolt carriers. I used a RRA NM trigger (AR-15) on my AR-10 and it works just fine. Any upper made in the last several years should work with just about any AR-15 trigger.

If your idea of a "hunting weight rifle" is 11+ lbs, you are on the right track...

You will need AR-10 takedown pins.
Noveske and several other quality manufacturers are machining AR-10 upper receivers for the Armalite lower design.

An Eagle Arms or other chrome-moly barrel with a fiberglass float tube will deliver all you could want in a hunting rifle. 18" or 20" barrel would be ideal.

good luck with your project, especially the parts accumulation phase.
