Was wondering what scope power folks are using on their 22 mags and 17 HMRs....

I have a couple of each...

On a Ruger 77.22 Mag, I have a straight 6 power scope...
on a Ruger 77.17 Mag, I have a 3 x 9 Weaver on that one..

ON a Marlin 22 Mag, I have a Cheap Tasco 3 x 12
on a Marlin 17 HMR I have a 4 x 16 Tasco on that one...

on a pair of New England 22 Mag and 17 HMR, I have 3 x 9 Tascos on those...

do you guys find that the higher magnification scopes are an advantage on these Rimfire Mags in the field???

on the Marlin with the 4 x 16, I have a Stoney Point Target Knob on top for elevation that has proven handy out to 200 yds..

Most of the stuff I shoot is within 100 to 125 yds... if I need further, I usually use the 223 that is setting right next to the Rimfire Mag...

This question is assuming prairie dogs or ground squirrel type shooting environment, where high volume shooting is usually the rule of the day...

My WMR (77/22VMBZ) has an older VariX-III 3.5-10x40 AO atop it works grand. Almost aways on 6x just only really have to touch the AO when needed. Would rather have a 6x42 AO on it, but I ain't droppin' the coin for one of those when what I have is just about as good.

On the two Volquartsen's, one wears a Leupold Mk 4 6.5x20 mil-dot and the other a Leupold 8.5x25 mil-dot, the CZ in 22mag wear a weaver 2x7 and the 17HMR wears a leupold 3.5x10. I wish the higher powered Leupolds were the target dot though as the mil-dot is pretty busy for the sage rats.

My Ruger 96-22 mag. and Weatherby MK XX11 wear 6x42 Leupolds with the parallax adjusted to 50 yards. My Ruger 77-17 wears a fixed 8X leupold with AO. These seem to work great for small varmits.

I shoot a Ruger 77/17HMR scoped with a Leupy 4x12/50 with fine crosshairs. Had a Nikon 3x9 on it to begin with, but saw the Leupy on sale and ........ smile

My Anschutz .22 mag has a Leupy 3 -9 EFR rimfire scope on it. My Sako Quad has a 3-9 Burris Quad. Both scopes probably get used most on 6x.

4-16x40 Bushnell Elite on my 17 HMR. For most of my varmint shooting it stays on on 10-12X most of the time.

My Marlin 17 HMR has a Mueller 4.5 - 14x on it and with the rifle basix trigger it is a gopher killin son of a gun. I have a slough of 22's mostly winchester pumps, 1890's, 62's, 61's and an 06 and that Marlin is the only thing I have scoped. I have one of those Kimbers on order from the CMP and when it gets here I'll be scoping it. I haven't decided on what yet but I think it is boiled down to a Leupold, Nikon or another Mueller. I am really impressed with the Muller I have on my 17. My centerfires are equipped with Burris, Leupold and B&L.

I guess I am a cheapazz but I have a 10/22 SS Rifle, a Savage MKII 22LR, and a Marlin 922M and all wear Tasco World Class 4x-16x-40AO scopes. My winchester 74 is iron sights.

I'm really fond of AO scopes for rimfires. My 10/22 wears a Leupold 4-12AO. the 22mag/77 a 6-18AO and the Weatherby XXII 17HMR has a 6.5-20x40EFR.
