I picked up some "cheap" lead bullets. They are a flat point (not wadecutter) with one l lube groove and no gas check. I have ww231, H110, bullseye and blue dot on hand. I'm guessing a start load around 7 or 8 of ww231. I'm more than happy to just use a safe load without hopping things up or wearing out my pistol. The pistol is a S&W 629 classic with a 6 inch barrel.
I'd appreciate the help. Thanks in advance.

9-11 grs of Blue Dot will fill more of the case, preventing a double charge and will come close to doing what an H110 load does without so much fuss.
It will also keep pressure down, causing less lube stress and less leading, if its really lube at all?
Blue Dot at 1,000-1,100 fs will always generate less pressure than Bullseye or 231 at the same speed, and despite both biting less at you, can be harder on the gun.
H110 is a great 44 powder, but must be used in more quantity to burn properly, costing more and barking more at the same time.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. I'm headed out to load some up right now.

Should add you can go up on the powder charge, I just don't lean that hard on my 'Smith.
Might have to to get the sights to regulate, or go to a lighter pill.

Go BLUEDOT!
Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.
When your ship comes in. ... make sure you are willing to unload it.
PAYPAL, sucks and I will never use them again. I recommend you do the same.

The guys are right. That is a heavy boolit for the S&W and if loaded with H110 for the best accuracy, it can beat the Smith. I can go into detail of what it can do if you like. The best for the S&W will be from 240 to 265 gr boolits. The Smith can take pressure but not recoil. It will be very hard to find accuracy with the heavy boolit below what it needs and with fast powders. I hate to say it but it is the wrong choice.
