Well, just organized the gun safe to get this years hunting rifles back in their place. During this I made a discovery. I own 4 300 magnum cal rifles. I have a FNH PBR in 300 wsm, a semi custom m700 in 300 H&H, rem sendero 300 win mag and a savage 300 rsaum. the only thing I can think of as a reason is that these 80-110 lb white tail we have around here are really tough and need these cal to take them down. well I geuss that I could sell some or just maybe I need to get a rem 700 300 ultra mag to balance things out. Any body else run into this problem?

It's quite possible that you will need a .300 Weatherby Mk V, in a beautiful stock to help round out that collection of .30 cal magnums. Also - do you have a .30 cal "bull gun" for 1000 yard target competition? Those are really vital to a complete collection... The Sendero comes close, but misses the mark a bit. Helpful bunch aren't we?

the 300 H&H is a real prize to me. The rifle was built by Howard Dietz in New Braunfels TX, his rifles are excellent shooters.i have had him build a couple of rifles but this isn't one of them. I found this rifle on the used rifle rack at cabelas I think It was priced at 499.00 story short I purchaced this rifle for 350.00 dollars this is with a muzzle break scope ready to hunt. The action has been blueprinted the barrel is a hart the stock is mcmillian. It now has a BGS muzzle break and a ziess 1.5-6 x42. it shoots group under an inch with out a problem with the 200 gn a max bullets it will shoot just under 1.5 inches at 500 yrds.

I'm not over-run with .300's (only have 2- .300 H&H & .308 Norma) but those damn .35's keep breeding in my safe. At last count there were a .35 Rem, .356 Win, .358 Win, .35 Whelen, .350 Rem Mag, .358 Norma Mag, 2 .348 Win's plus a .351 WSL & a .357 Maximum. Guess I better go check a make sure a .358 STA hasn't been "born" in there....

Howard is a good dude, I've had him do some work from time to time. I had him build a gun for my nephew. He left some tooling marks here and there but the gun shot awesome. You say you have 4, well heck I dont own one 300 mag so the world evens out Ed

I only have the 300 Roy and 300 RUM (and a 30-06, of course), but I really want a 300 H&H. Need has nothing to do with rifle choices. :P

I think you need a 30/378 Weatherby too. +1 Those other magnums are too underpowered for the mighty deer. .30-378 shooting 180s at a million mph is the absolute minimum! The .50 BMG is even better, I like the SLAP-T rounds for incredible knockdown.

You should always have more than one of whatever you hunt with, in case something snags it's berries...

I'm struggling with this "problem" right now. I have a Kimber Montana .300 WSM, a Rem 700 .300 Win Mag, and now a .300 Weatherby Mark V SBGM on the way. I wanted to try the Weatherby just because and thought I would just part with one of the other .300s, but they are just so darn accurate I'm struggling with which one to get rid of. Of course, my rifles have been holding value a bit better than my stock investments so I have that going for me...

Lou I used to feel guilty that I had way too much money invested in guns. Now I'm beginning to think it's the smartest thing I've done. Sam, Love the ground squirrel pic! But I will say I think your Sako might need a laser or red dot for close in rapid aquisition.............................DJ

Fine choice, the .300s, for a whole lot of big game, from deer and antelope to moose and bears. Wonderfully versatile. Lots of ammo and bullet choices. Not difficult for determined rifleman to shoot well. This side of the big bears, a .300 almost never, ever leaves you wanting for more.
Im currently down to just two a custom Rifles Inc. Classic built on a Remington M700 action in .300 Winchester Magnum (just 7 lbs. 2 oz. with Leupold VX-III 2.5-8) and a nifty new Remington M700 Alaskan Ti in .300 WSM (6 lbs. 15 oz. with the same scope). Both rifles are a joy to carry anywhere, shoot extremely well and have proven ideal in the field from Arizona to Alaska.
Go .300s!
