Anyone know where I can get a 2 or 3 inch long bolt in 1/4" and 3/16" diameters with 28 threads per inch? I am bedding an A-bolt and want to get over-sized screws that I can grind down the heads and be able to install them in the action and then drop it down into the stock. I called Brownells and explained what I wanted to a tech person but he told me they don't have any action screws for an A-bolt. I tried to explain that any 2-3 inch screw/bolt of the above sizes and thread would serve my purpose, but he just kept telling me they didn't have any screws for A-bolts. The local hardware store has 1/4 and 3/16 bolts of course, but only with 24 or 32 threads per inch. Thanks in advance for any help!

I don't think action screws are standard SAE.

NAPA stores usually have a good assortment of fine and coarse bolts.

1/4 x 28 is a standard fine . bet Brownell's even has a die to run over a 1/4 inch round stock. 3/16 is another story.

3/16" is the #10 series, as in 10-24 or 10-32.

Thanks guys. Yes, a 3/16 is a #10 bolt. When I took my action screws to the hardware store they had a sizing board with female receptacles and one was for a #10/28 that my 3/16" screw went right into. So it is apparently a standard size, but this store didn't carry any. I may call Brownells again and see if I can talk to a different tech person about a 1/4" bolt and also I will check out a few more hardware stores for the smaller size. Thanks!

Don't ask for action screws. Ask for inletting guide screws. They have 1/4 x 28.

Action screws also come with T handles for glass bedding or inletting...but be carefull if you tighten them down you, in effect, are creating a bind in most cases..They are easier to break loose when glass is used..
