Picked up a shooter EG solid frame rifle. It looks like a honest rifle with many trips into the woods of the mid-west. With exception of the obvious D&T and sling additions there is no sign of abuse to wood or screws ect. Bore is bright and the action feels tight with no visible signs that would indicate this rifle was shot a lot. One thing that I can not figure out is the bluing is modeled with slight surface rust at one side of the receiver. Looks like the rifle was put in the case wet after a hunting trip and forgotten about. Case color on the lever is weak compared to other Savages I have seen. Any comments on bluing condition would be appreciated.

Next a range report on how it shoots

Thanks 38superman

Very nice rifle. Seen a lot of them with the discolored receiver. Just adds character to that one though.

Take some 0000 steel wool and some gun oil, and lightly scrub the receiver, this will take any light rust off and stop it from rusting more. It won't hurt the blue at all. Use some Snake Oil on the wood, and when your done the rifle will look 100% better. Nice rifle.

Shooters gotta SHOOT and for me the Savage 250s have always been a favorite. Do tell us how this one groups for you?

There's another 250 EG in my stable, too.

The fore end wood to barrel fit was the tightest I'd ever encountered. It became even tighter after it got a fresh coat of oil and wax.

The initial groups shot at 8" at a 100 yds. so I've got to lighten the trigger pull a little and relieve some of the pressure on the fore arm. Then we'll see how it shoots... smile

38super,
From years of experience....I can tell you that the blue on that rifle....will not affect how it shoots. If you like it...thats what counts. Enjoy.

It has those Weaver Pivot mounts that are ever so much better than see-throughs. Wonder why Weaver stopped making them? I would not tend to suspect them as the cause for the loose grouping if everything is tight. Most of those I've seen, the owner was happy with the accuracy. DonW
