Probably have to set up an impromptu session.
I started getting interested in it once when I used a Walther PP in .32 to pepper a 50 gallon drum at 100 yards. After one ranging shot, every shot plinked off the drum and it became monotonous.
Many years ago, in my lost and mispent youth, I had occasion to spend hours with a couple of rich kids who owned several 1911 pistols that had been customized by the late, great Armand Swenson. These were works of art, as well as being functional defense weapons.
Anyway, these two guys owned a ski resort in Wisconsin and in the summer time, had ready made back-stops (the slopes) with which to set up targets at ranges up to and including nearly 700 yards.
They had propped a VW Beetle trunk lid against a tree at 300 yards, and we proceeded to smack it repeatedly with our .45s. Once you had your aiming point above the lid, which for me was the crotch of a branch about 6 feet (probably poorly estimated) above the lid, you could hit it every time!
