I am getting 11.5 to 13 mpg around town and up to 18 on the road if i stay below 75 mph. Towing a 25 ft trailer i am getting 10 to 12 mpg.
Good luck,
Jon

My neighbor just traded his truck with a 6L. He was getting 12 at best, 10 when towing something.

That seems more realistic.

My uncle has one in a 2006 3/4ton 4x4, he gets around 12/13 last I heard, not great, but sure beats his 95 with the 454 that he pulls the stock trailer with.

Buddy has one in a 3/4 ton Suburban, he gets 15 on the highway at best, more like 13 if he's hauling azz.

I work with a guy that has a Crew Cab short box 2500, 4x4, 6 spd auto and 4:10 gears with the 6.0L. He told me in the warmer months he averages 14 MPG with combined town/highway driving. He doesn't go over 70 MPH on the highway. I say town because he doesn't really drive in the city. he plows in the winter and it's been a great truck for that so far.

The GM 6.0L is supposed to be a very good engine from everything I've heard about them. None of the full size trucks are going to get good mileage.

Take nothing I say personal, remember....it's just the interweb!

Thanks to all for the info. Its a shame GM does not offer the half ton with a bigger bed in the crew cab.

I have a 2003 1500HD with the 6.0 and 3.73 gears, I get around 10-12 in the winter and 12-13 warmer months around town. The best I have got is 14.5 on the highway.

I don't know, farmer. You put a crew cab and a long box on a 1/2 ton chassis, you don't have much left for cargo without exceeding the Gross Vehicle Weight.

Why such a narrow tire? Why not go with a 265/75R/16, it is a safer mount on a 16x7.5 inch wheel.

I have an older 6.0 Chevy 2500 HD crew..2002 w/67K miles...auto w/4.10 gears...285 BFG TAs...chipped...Magnaflow muff & K-N box filter...been a good strong truck...will go as fast as you tell it to...hwy mpg has been at 16...if you keep your foot out of it...just too many open roads in Utah...pulling a 22' camper or a 18' horse trailer with two horses will easily drop it to 11 mpg..but doesn't struggle at all...good ole truck...bought it new in '02...

I've got basically the same truck. 2004 2500 Light Duty 4x4 with 3.73 gears. With magnaflow (which is annoying as heck and will be coming off this summer) and K&N cold air intake, I max out around 13.5 on the highway, and have gotten as little as 8.5 around town. I average 10.5 around town.

However, if you are looking at the new trucks, I believe they all have the valve control which basically shuts down cylinders if the RPMs stay consistent, and helps MPG.

The Displacement on Demand is only on the 5.3L V8

Poor--one of my good hunting buddies has HD 3/4 T crew cab in a 2006--we split gas when we go hunting, depending on who is driving.

I can't figure out why the 5.3 gets very good fuel milage, and the 6.0 does so bad for such a small increase in power.........

Of course, as soon as you go to a crew cab or HD, you tend to lose a fair amount of fuel milage in the gas engines.

1500HD/ 2500/2500HD 3500

they all have more truck under the body than a 1500 with a 5.3 that is one reason why.

My '03 2500hd has the 6.0 and gets as low as 11 and as good as 14mpg depending on conditions and driving style.... Surprisingly, I only lose a couple of MPG when towing a 24ft travel trailer.

Can't see how you could lose more than a couple grin
