GOOD NEWS!
My buddy got back from his bear hunt.
Shot a bear that he says was a little over 300 lbs
140 grain Hornady, from a .270, bear went 8 yards, and died.
I realize this sin't a huge bear, but is probably bigger than "average" weight.

270, don't worry about that 270 for blackies as it is one of the best for blackies. Use a good accurate bullet of good construction and practice a lot.
Above thirty caliber doesn't mean anything your 270 will kill them just as quick as any above 30 cal.
and the comment of " put it in the right spot" drives me NUTS.
I don't care what you are using if its not in the right spot its going a long way.
If you shoot a bear with a 338 win mag in the wrong place its going just as far as if you shot it with a 270 or atleast very close.
Practice a lot and have fun.
Good luck
Brian
