I hope to do a little long range (for me!) target shooting later this summer, and I am looking for a new scope.

Hopefully it will have the following features:

High quality optics with good low light performance.

Objective in the 42mm to 50mm range..

Variable power with a max of between x14 and x16 (I already have a 3-12x50, and want to try something with a bit more magnification)

A heavy German 4 reticule

Side adjustable parallax.

Target turrets, preferably low profile?

The scope is to go on a .308win and I am looking at shooting coyote-sized targets between 600 to 750m...

Up to now the nearest candidates I 've come up with are S&B PRECISSION HUNTER 4-16x50mm and the new Kahles T418 4.5-18x50mm

Another possible candidate if the Leupold Mark 4 LRT but although I believe they are bomb proof, I am not sure how good their lowlight performance is??

Of the others I've seen, I have discounted IOR, Meopta, Doctor Optic and Nightforce..

Are there any others out there worth considering?

Pete,

I read your posting and don't have anything from my experiences to advise you on. But, I hate seeing you request die on the vine, so I'm just trying to keep your question alive till someone can answer your question.

I have the S&B Precision Hunter, albeit with a different reticle. It is a very superior scope that will fullfil all of your requirements. There is a ranging turret on the top of the scope. To use it properly a ballistics program is in order.

S & B make a wonderful scope.

Pete, i think you will find that there will be few options that couple a heavy german 4 reticle with the power range you wish and target turrets.

If you want a target hunting scope with a bias towards long range targets and then go Nightforce NXS. If you want a reticle for poor light hunting on daylight / dawnlook at the illuminated reticle models.
