I was in the local wally world and saw a crosman storm xt for a great price so I bought it. I went to the range today and had a ball. that thing is very accurate. can't wait to help the neighborhood feral cats find a new home.
This is the first air rifle for me(63 YO). anything I need to know about the maintenance/upkeep on this thing?

Just regular maintenance. Mostly common sense. keep it lubed and clean. Never dry fire it or keep it cocked. Treat it like any firearm.

Make sure NOT to allow oil/lube to get in the barrel or else you're going to get the "dieseling" effect which may sound cool and give a boost in power, but it is REALLY bad for the gun and WILL damage the O-rings.
Keep the barrel clean, but keep it free of oil/lube. Cleaning pellets work real good.

I really dont think an air gun is pwerful enough for cats, i would use a 22 short. I have an RWS and it seems powerful but after 25yds it runs out of steam pretty quick, just a thought...

Good air rifles are meant to be shot.....a-lot. 1 drop of chamber lube every 2000 shots, light oil on the hinge and maybe the spring and shoot, shoot, shoot. These things are the fountain of youth!

I think you mean the air chamber...oil in the barrel will do nothing other than ruin your accuracy until it is cleaned out. RWS and others sell special lube for the air chamber that will not diesel...there is another for the mainspring... ...as to cats...a high velocity air gun will drop a cat as well as a .22 will... If you don't want to kill a cat don't shoot it anything more powerful than a Red Rider BB gun... Bob
