I know these aren't flies. But I got to thinking, adding some maribou to my leadheads would add a nice bit of flaring fish gill action to my saltwater jigs. I also got to thinking wrapping some chenille would provide a bump to help flare the maribou, and also provide something to hold herring oil. Whatcha think, lingcod special?

Couple thoughts... With some materials like the green Flashabou, a couple wraps of thread in the center of the stuff holds it well, then fold the front half back and wrap it all down is tougher and easier to cover.

Also, those fish have lots more teeth than freshwater stuff, so hit them with a bunch of polish, epoxy or something...

458 Lott: With the next photos could you provide something for scale. I can't tell if I'm looking as a size 28 jig that one might use in a spring creek beaver pond or 000 hook that might be lashed to a pole and used as a gaff. I supect it's the latter. Wish I wasn't 6 hours away from salt water. 1Minute

Like to see the chicken that could keep a 16oz jig above water, even for a minute or two...

He got them to grow longer legs to keep the dusters off the floor, so he probably could grow one to float...

Our Alaska Fly Fishers annual auction is tonight at the Millenium for those local... Opens at 5 and Whitekeys starts about 6:30. There is a lot of good stuff, including some pretty fancy trips, on the block.
