What are your Favorite Morrel Mushroom recipe? Im starting to find a few and the way I fix them is like fish. I beat an egg and add a little milk. Then wash the shroomes in cold water and slice in halves & dry on paper towel. Dredge the shroomes in egg bath and shake in cornmeal peper and garlic powedr in a paper bag and fry till brown. Other recipes welcom! I have herd that butter and garlic fried is good also!

My wife likes them best split up the middle, sprayed clean with cold water, rolled in flour & simply fried in butter till they start to form a bit of a crispy golden outer.
she dips them in ranch dressing.
I like that to but I preffer cleaning the same way, then saute with a dash of soy/worshtishire (sp?) in butter with onions & pile over a good steak. And i do mean pile.
Something clever here.

Going out this weekend to see if they are out around here yet. The lilac leaves are the size of mouse ears so they should be popping up anytime.
I dip mine (washed and halved) in egg wash and then roll in seasoned flour and brown in butter. Will have to try them with some garlic in the butter as that sounds really good. Man! now I'm hungry. Not fair!

frogs just started croaking last night. That's one signpost in the journy towards the morels that's past us. Now we need to start seeing some green, some buds on the trees etc.
I will be trying mine with some garlic too, sounds very good.

I don't hunt them, but I have friends that do. One was the best. When everyone else was looking down, he was looking up for any slick old elm laydown that the bark was falling from. A sure sign for morels in KS old growth woods. Good luck with the recipes.

They're popping here in Eastern Nebraska/Western Iowa. I'm going out this weekend. Wish me luck.

Here's another SE KS tip. The road ditches around old abandoned farms have lots of asparagus this time of year. Keep your eyes open on your way to the mushroom patch. Good luck.

You say MORREL and I'll raise you one and say portabella. Just kidding. I find them, and when I do I get a five gallon pail of them in less time than it takes to type this.
I use these Morrels for my basic sauce for everything Italian. Make up gallons of the tomato sauce and freeze, it's my starter sauce. 14 hours cooking time a minimum for this basic sauce. But it don't run away on the plate either.
