Stoped by a yard sell today because I saw a gun case in the front yard. Turned out to be a junker but he told me had a couple of .22's in side. Ended up buying a Marlin model 15 YN single shot bolt action and a Remington 581-S for a $100. Both are in mint condition, they still have the blueing on the crowns.
My grandson will be 8 in Aug so the Marlin should be a good starter for him.I would like to fix the 581 up to give to him when he's ready. Are there any after market stocks & triggers for the 581.

Thanks Greg

Greg,
Triggers for the Remington 788 can be made to work but IIRC the safety needs modification to fit in the stock. Brian Voelker can do a very nice trigger job on the 581s but he won't work on the older 581. Do a search on RFC in the Remington forum. His number has been posted there several times. 541S triggers work fine but they're difficult to find.

Cron, thank great site!!!

Elk, I'm a basketball coach and several years ago We got beat by a team I thought we weere better then. Couldn't sleep so about 3am I got my son up and we went duck hunting.
As luck would have it the wind changed and the ducks started coming in on my side of the blind. After about the 3rd go my son said "Dad? Why don't you let me shoot first before you scare'em". My brother was with us and after he quit crying from laughing so hard......I had a new nick name.

If you found a Remington 581 in mint condition for $100, that is close to felony theft! What a deal!!

I had Voelker do a couple triggers for me on some 581-S models that I had purchased through the years. He does GREAT work. Really a nice clean, crisp trigger.

And for $100, you absolutely stole it!
