Your perpetual role as second-fiddle don't piss anyone off, though the humor IS appreciated.

Mainly because it weren't your intent.

I really don't think you get quite that contour with the XCR. I've held my LVSF right next to my friend's XCR to compare. I didn't put calipers to the tubes but the XCR sure did look lighter.

I'm just hoping you don't wind up with more clearance than you prefer.

Not to float this turd back to the top, but does anybody have the specs on a LVSF contour? I'm going to put a caliper to my Seven XCR and am curious...

Thanks,

Dan

Well, the measurements I found online for a magnum contour definitely don't fit this one. It's 1.250 at the recoil lug, .900 at the start of the flutes, and finishes at .633 at the muzzle (20"). There's no real shoulder, just pretty much a straight taper.

Correct. I think the Model Seven XCR barrel was billed as a "fluted magnum contour" just like the LVSF, but mathman believes (and I think rightfully so) that the Model Seven XCR is a smaller contour than the magnum/LVSF.

On my 308 LVSF at a point 19" out from the face of the receiver the barrel is 0.655" thick.

It's 0.740" about 10 3/4" out from the receiver face.

As well as I can measure without pulling the stock it's about 0.870" right at 4 5/8" from the receiver face.

I hope those numbers are of some use.

Thanks. I'll measure at those spots tonight when I get home.
