I have a few pictures from yesterday & today.

Me & my little helper shooting the new 264, he wanted a turn behind the trigger, seriously.



first round fed into the new ruger.


starting a fire in the fire ring, we had a real nice bon fire & sat out till late at night visiting around the fire.

I went to a gun show today and found a rifle I have been looking for.It's a Siamese Mauser modified to 45/70 with a new barrel on it.

Stan, what hunting loads are you using in your 45-70? I'm still trying to work up a load for my #1. GB

She was actually quite furious with me, she demanded several hours to prepare her self for her public appearance at her job at a local grocery store. (several hours in the bathroom doing make up or what ever she does in there) our mud fun slowed us down on our trip home from camp. Her prep time was cut from hours to minutes. And we all paid dearly for our sins against her highness.


Parents of teenage daughter everywhere, I feel your pain. Hang in there, it must pass some day, it really must.

Your #1 will take hellacious loads but I have found a good load that doesn't dislocate parts of your body and is pretty doggone accurate.It's moving about 1075FPS which is what you want for white tail deer.A slow moving big bullet that does a complete pass thru.I use a 350 grain Remington Jacketed round nose bullet over 40 grain of Reloader 7.
The Hornady Leverrevolution is a good albeit rather "spirited" load.If you use cast bullets then pick one with wide meplat.Big old flat nosed jobs do great.

Runs like a top. I'm impressed with the storage. I need more fishing gear because there is still a compartment without anything in it.

The bowmount isn't the greatest but it works for now. Probably will have to work until next year. It is only 36# so fishing on the rivers...it is on full bore.

The fin is on the motor to prevent porpusing. I took it off, but not sure if I'm going to leave it that way or not.

The real fishing test will be in a few weeks when I head up to the Chippewa Flowage with the boys for a good long weekend of fishing. Well, mostly fishing.

I have one of those too...and she's only 6.

It looks like you have some tractor work to do on that road in a few weeks. It has been raining here since Friday night. She's gonig to be sloppy for a few days here. We don't have the clay like you do up there. Our mess usually is only here for a short time because of all the sandy soil.

Did you get a bird?

I picked up my buddy at 5:15 Sat am. and we heard a shot a few minutes after that, and it was pouring.

It's mostly sand out there too but the top layer is black & sloppy, and the sand is really fine, silty. It's so wet right now, the sort of thing that builds a good suction around your boot & tries to pull your boots off your feet.

Weezy's a good kid. She was flustered, having a bad day. We all are entitled to those I guess.

I'm glad that alumacraft is working out for you Tom. Sounds like a good rig.

Forgot to add, it's winter here again this morning. Started snowing last night, we woke up to about 2" of heavy wet snow.

Dave, I've got good news and bad news. The good news is "it will pass". The bad news is "it won't taper off until she gets out of high school". In the mean time, hide!

Speaking of daughters, mine just called. She locked herself out of the house and I had to run over and unlock it for her so she could get to work.

was it your fault she locked her self out or was it her mom's fault?

Stan, thanks for the info. I'll have to give it a try. Right now I'm using 350 Gr Hornady hollow points at 1,850 fps. It's accurate and not to hard on the shoulder. Also have a load using 405 Gr Rem soft points at a bit over 1,800 fps. Not as accurate and kicks like a mule.

Hers, she's 40 now and takes responsibility for her own actions.

Tom, no bird for me. Saw lots of hens (Must be a chick magnate), but no Toms while actually hunting. Didn't hunt at all the last 2 days because of the weather.

Glad to hear you're happy with the Alumacraft. It will serve you well.

Weezy will be fine. Wait until you bug her when she's getting ready for her first date, which I know you would never do...

The Alumacraft is good so far. It caught a walleye and a few bass this weekend, a good start.

It will have to work for a few years untill I can save enough to pay for a Ranger. I'll get another, I just don't want to make payments on one.

It looks like you guys had a good time this weekend. Mini man and I are flying solo up to the camper next weekend. It is opening fishing here in WI on inland lakes. He wants to drive the boat and make pancakes, so I'll see what I can do.

There's an old adage about daughters and sons that has a lot of truth to it.

"A daughter is a daughter all her life. A son is a son until he takes a wife."

I heard this years ago and didn't fully understand the meaning until I was around 50. I'll let you younger guys stew on this for the next 20 years or so than give you a test.
