Are there any around? It seems all I can find are 100yrd ranges. With all the masses around here it seems there would be one somewhere. I would be willing to drive a bit even. Thanks!

Tiger Valley in Waco has a 1000 yd range. They have limited shooting opportunities, however. Here's their web site: http://www.tigervalley.com/HTH, Scott

It looks like Tiger Valley actually leases the range for training. I don't think there is even any public access. A 1000yd range would be great though!

Tiger Valley's range is owned by a dude that used to love shooting and his daughter was killed in a car wreck. Turned him into a class one [bleep]. And leased the range out.
Its a shame as it took tons of money to do it and it is an interesting range wind wise to say the least. Took me about 4 years to shoot the first ever clean at 600 there and that was a tough one to do unless you shot early in the morning or late evening, and even then they'd only gotten to 199s, says a lot about the winds in most matches.
Hopefully Redgun will help, there is the TSRA range at Mineral Wells that we've dumped tons of money into and still are able to use at the whim of the guard last I heard, but I'm out of the loop a bit for sure for that area.
Beyond that its more likely to find something else, BUT Temple has a really neat range out to 300 yards and maybe even 400 IIRC, but no real benches at the longer ranges.
Past that, Houston area has Bayou Rifles to 1000 and Lake Jackson to 600 and Beaumont to 600.

Thanks. It is simply amazing that a huge area like Dallas/FTW has so little to offer. I would think the demand would be there. Its tough to learn how to fly if you have to drive half a day to spread your wings.

When we used to compete the closest match was 1 plus hour out and the "far" ones were 4-5 hours, and would have to be there generally 7am or earlier. Sometimes not finishing a match on a sunday until 5pm or later.
Depends on how bad you want to do something. Its not cheap though. But unless the drive was over 4-5 hours we never went early and paid for a motel. Know that doesn't help much, but seriously Temple isn't that far from you if 300-400 is good. I can get you contact info PM me if interested.
Mineral Wells was ok, but the guys that ran it were different, such that none of us in Central TX were ever excited about going.

There is public access, but it's not very frequent. A few times a year, they have open shoots for the public. Last year, it was $25 for the day. What they do is start at 200yds and move back to 1000yds as quickly as possible. Once they get to 1000yds, they stay there for the day. Scott

Is Jim still affiliated as the owner?

I don't know who Jim is, but I know the current manager leases it from the owner. I would assume that the owner is this Jim of whom who write.

Well, it's not strictly Dallas, but there's a 300 yard range in Cumby (just east of Greenville). http://www.outbacksportsman.comFWIW, they are good people and the atmosphere is very relaxed. They have an annual membership rather than a fee-per-day system, so most of the members are committed shooters.
