Can you use Devcon for bedding a rifle?

I need to bed a rifle and all I have access to at the moment is Devcon.

Thanks.

yes, I like it better than marine tex. JB weld also works great. I am not sure how the JB weld resists solvents so I am waiting a while before I use it on any other guns, but it seems okay so far.

Thank you for the reply, what would you use as a release agent?

Johnson's floor wax seems to be favored, eg. by Mr. Atkinson

Devcon what? You question is really no different than asked if you haul horses in a Ford.

Devcon makes a lot of products, I have some 90 second epoxy made by Devcon that would NOT work for bedding.

Personally, I really like Marine Tex, but it has a 5-1 mix ration that is a pain in the tail.

Decvon 10110 is the one you need to use, usually comes in a one pound can and does not come in the small syringes found at most hardware stores (but I wish it was).

If you need to use marinetex use the gray, not the white version.

I have used JB weld with good results but it seems to get thin as it cures and tends to run into places you dont want it unless you dam everything up.

Dev 10110 and brownells steelbed have about the same consisteny as toothpaste and do not tend to move on you to much.

I like marine Tex grey alot. I have been really liking Devcon steel putty lately. Accur glas gel works well also. 1st two seem to give better results.

I like Devcon steel putty and Johnson's Paste Wax. Never had a problem with either. I pop the action out when the overflow gets a bit toughter than a tootsie roll (fingernail will just make good mark). Trim up with a hobby knife and you are GTG.

Okay guys, don't laugh but plain old Bondo fiberglass resin with hardener will also work just fine. It will give time to work if you go just a little light on the hardener and will be very durable and a can will bed more rifles than any normal person will ever need.

Devcon steel putty and KIWI Neutral shoe polish works like a charm.

Bondo doesn't really get hard enough. Neither does regular Acra-glas gel at least IMHO. I like Acra-glas when it is dolled-up with fiberglass flock, aluminum powder or steel powder but not plain. I like my bedding to be rock hard and not flexy.

Varmintsinc,

Why not use the white version of Marine Tex? Other than the color, aren't they the same?

I am asking because I've only use the grey and have no experience with the white. But I was thinking of using white MT on a white camo stock.

I'm a Devcon convert(from Marine Tex.) Have a go at both with a file, and I think you'll agree.

The gray is stiffer. Go with the gray, done right nobody will notice.

Thank you Mt Hunter and bcp. I am convinced. I'll stay with the grey.

Earlier I listed the Devcon 10760.

Heres what the manufacturer says about it;

"High-technology, titanium-reinforced epoxy, engineered for making repairs to machinery and equipment that can be precision machined."

Another vote for the Devcon 10110. I use the Brownell's "Acra release" spray-on release agent. Works great and one can will last a long, long time.
