The win mag has a 24" barrel, the SAUM a 20" barrel.
Both primarily for hunting.
Thanks for any help.

David - I use a max book load for the 200 gr bullet listed on Hodgdon's website and yearly updates. I did work up to this load while using the 208 AMax.
Have not tried the 208 AMax on game, but 1000 yard 7" groups out of my Savage 112 BTSS is the norm. I am also coating the bullets with WS2/Danzac.

Yes sir. Picture below is H4831 and Nosler 180 gr BT's (with a 18-22 mph wind). The 208's buck the wind a little better and are a bit more accurate at longer ranges (over 700 yards).

I too shoot a Savage chambered in 300 Winchester Magnum with a factory 26" fluted varmint barrel. I have some loading data for you to get some kind of idea what you might want to try. This is the load that I use. 71gr IMR7828 CCI BR-2 large rifle primers "not Magnum primers", Hornady 208A-MAX. I am loading my shells so the bullets are just touching the rifling. I also necksize with the LEE collet Dies. I am showing no pressure at all I tried pushing the bullets faster and lost my accuracy My best group is 6 3/8 at 820yrds.I figure My velocity is around 2900-3000 fps. I have killed an 8 point whitetail at 560 yards and this bullet did a beautiful job in one shot it didn't take a step the deer just sat down like a dog and it was all over. I didn't find the bullet but it expanded nice. There was about a 2 1/2" exit hole and the bullet didn't hit any ribs on either side. Just my 2 cents.
