I went to the new Cabela's in Billings MT today and they had a model 99 300Savage with a scope mounted in what I think is a stith mount. I don't know too much about the stith mount but it seems like the pictures I see here all the scopes are straight tubes without a belled objective lens. This is a weaver scope 4x with a belled objective. I'm sure by looking at the tang part of the mount that it is a stith or some sort of stith copy. It has a purplish color to it, and the front part is in the dovetail for the original rear sight. Any info that anyone has would be appreciated. I did put it on layaway.

There were several styles, the straight tube is the most common. Here's one with the front bell I've got that came on a sad little 1935 99EG:

That looks exactly the same. Is the belled part on the front of the scope part of the scope or part of the mount?

Thank you. I, too, have been trying to find information about these mounts. Your diagram helped immensly. The diagram should be a sticky for newbies like me to find and refer to in the future.
