Went to the archery range this morning, with my Mathews Drenalin bow. Practice at 40 yds. was going better than usual, then, that wierd splat that can only mean- Robin Hood! [Linked Image]

Hell yeah!!

I'm not that good with my Dren yet, but was warned by the salesman to use all of the aiming spots on the block or I could start smackin' my arrows if I was shooting for group.

Nice! Even more so that you saved it in a photo and shared it with us. In my neck of the woods we call that a William Tell.

You can now happily transit to the next life now, where you will be required to shoot real bows (no training wheels):)

To be honest- it's kinda like asking a golfer if they can repeat a hole in one! Maybe.........

Splitting arrows is cool, expensive, but cool. I have the secret to splitting arrows. I don't suppose you remember the one I did at 100 yds that I posted. Shoot 4" - 6" groups at 100 and eventually.... I put that picture on every site I could find. I even sent it to Bowtech and PSE. Anyway, I've got friends that bust nocks, and tear feathers who never get robin hoods. The key is to shoot a rigid target. The big rag bag our club shoots allows the arrows to move when you hit them. Stick your arrow in a block, or a Rhinehart target, and then smack it. You get a lot more split arrows. I like doing it to other people! I joined a R&G club where they put them on the ceiling with a little plaque. I stopped when I got to 6 and yank out the good arrow now. At $12 a pop, I'd rather do it to other people.

That's cool. Once or twice, then it gets expensive. I use Unibushings and G-nocks in my Bemans. Makes them way tougher, no more splitting of the shaft where the nock goes in.

Gotten ones at 20, 30, and 40. It's still cool and a hard feat to perform no matter how many times you do it. It just goes to show how far technology and bows have come.

When the forty happened it looked like the second arrow flipped up and over the target. I was thinking, what the heck happened? It was an optical illusion. When the second arrow struck the first they both kicked the tail up at the same time and settled back in place. (It was a worn spot in the block) Since they were on top of each other I only saw one set of fletching. That made me think that the second arrow went completely over the target. I was pretty excited to see I actually got a robin hood.

The crossweaves make a sickening crunch and you hear a little crackle afterward as the cracks spread. Gold Tip's make a little puff of black dust. They do look like they whip back and over the target too. You're not alone on that one. We have a Rhinehart buck the Big Ten, that has a little space above the plug and if you hit it right, it will snap your arrow and send it tumbling over it's back. That same target at at least one 3-D shoot where it's 50 yards down hill has snapped one of my buddies arrows the exact same way. Snap and up and over.

Congrats! Even though they are somewhat of a fluke, they prove you are doing things right with small groups at that distance!

I quit shooting bows basically a number of years back, and moved forward and back to firearms. Just not enough time in life to practice enough, unless its my compound which I just do like a rifle, check the zero and shoot and few and good to go. LIke riding a bike its hard to screw that one up.....

Anyway I had just moved over to carbon arrows. I have a 30 yard robin hood with aluminum but we as a group were commenting, how many knocks did we blow off AL arrows and hit the tip of the nock point yet slide off to a side. It happened on a fairly regular basis. Then we saw these hollow carbon shafts and were amazed at how much larger the area is to robin hood one. Plus you don't even really have to have a perfectly sharp tip on your point. Not taking away from the event, but we decided right there never to shoot for group with carbons, way too easy to ruin.
That also made us quit playing tag too....worst case with AL was usually ripped fletch and blown off knocks, not a ruined arrow.
