I currenyly live in Kalifornia and am fed up with it. Cost of living, lack of hunting area, the anti's, traffic, etc. I will be finishing school soon and will be able to move and buy a house. I was thinking Idaho, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, or any place west of the Mississippi (haven't spelled that one since elementary school). Anyways--can you guys make suggestion while taking all the above mentioned criteria into consideration. I also like to ride OHV and 4 by 4 so a fair amount of OHV trails would be a plus. I hunt everyting from ground squirrel to Elk. Thanks in advance.

well the cost of living aint to bad here in Montana. its very hunter friendly. traffic in the biggest city in the state is easy. jobs can be lacking compaired to say Denver but the western portion of the state is expanding. the eastern portion is more or less shrinking population wise. some areas more than others but if you can line up a good paying job i wouldnt count this side of the state out. lots of good hunting and fishing state wide. what did you go to school for?

MOA, in what subject did you major?? I suspect your job seeking might have something to do with where you move.
I lived in Los Angeles for almost 36 years, and moved to Idaho (for much the same reasons as your's), seven years ago. I never have regretted it for a moment.
Idaho has all you're seeking... other than perhaps a job, depending on what is your profession.
If I were you and your age, after graduation, I'd travel around in the various states and check out the job opportunites, climates,... and the outdoor recreation aspects, then make a decision.

I moved from So Cal to TN in '96. Best move I ever made. 4th lowest taxed state in the U.S. zero state income taxes, 3.2% unemployment, a VERY PRO HUNTING culture and it is a "Shall Issue State" for CCW. I love it here!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
