I have used my 8 mag that I use for every thing from deer to bear.
I use 150 speer on deer, fast and flat. 180 np for elk it does the job. Also had good luck with premier A frame with goo luck.
I will never give up my 8 mag.

Nice bruin Tod, I don't he likes your Big 8! I have a friend who always dreamed of the 8 Mag in high school. He bought the safari grade in 86 or 87 and it's all he used for everything since.

I'm gonna imagine there wasn't much of a tracking job to do. Congratulations.

There is a nice article on the 8mm Mag in the July issue of Guns & Ammo by Craig Boddington.

Gentlemen,

Is there really a 180-gn 8mm Nosler Partition??

I've shot lots of 200-gn Partitions from my Baby 8 (.325 WSM)... don't remember ever seeing a 180 NP though.

There's a 180 Ballistic Tip...

as far as I know, Nosler has never made a 180 gr Partition in 323", just 200 gr. I'd like to see a 230 gr Partition semi spitzer 323"!!!

Yeah, that's what I thought too... why I asked. An 8mm 180-gn Partition would be cool, if it existed.

I have a great friend that's had an 8mmRM for lots of years. Every once in awhile he'll bring his 8 and I'll bring my 375 h&h and we'll go mulie doe hunting out by Belle Fourche...I'd tell you what that 8 will do to a deer, but too many people would whine...let's just say it's awesome!

My BIL had an 8.... I wished he'd have told me he was selling but he gets all tied up going to gun shows and doesn't want to sell but to trade and so on... which is BS in my books but thats how it goes. I'd love to have one. What for I"m not sure but I did like shooting that gun, it shot well.....

an 8mm has more recoil than i care to tackle but i have a small friend (maybe 5'6" and 140lbs) who just had to have one for whitetails. he called it his "hooves in the air" gun. he wanted something that would anchor a deer without any tracking (he doesn't handload and never reads anything about guns/loads, just goes on what he hears from others). about 5 years ago he found a like new model 700 bdl (i believe) and shot 3-4 deer before he sold it. he just couldn't handle it. for you men that can handle the recoil, i'm sure the 8mm performs as expected.

I do bears the same way, don't usually dig in the guts either smile

Hotsoup, a good recoil pad really tames down recoil along with a stock that fits the individual properly. I find my 375 Ruger doesn't kick too bad (still going to change the pad though) but the Marlin Guide Guns in 450 Marlin and 45/70 that I have fired were no fun at all with the ill fitting (for me) factory stock.
