My fiance' just came back from visiting her folks and well I guess they must think I'm OK. They had a couple of rifles that they thought would be best given to me since I'm the only one in the family that cares about such things.

Anyway, if you could take a look at the attached pictures I sure would appreciate it - I know next to nothing about old Winchesters and her dad knows not much either. I think its a model 94 Saddle Carbine - the ring is missing. The gun does not have the model stamped on it - it only says 30 W.C.F. and then "Nickel Steel Barrel Especially for Smokeless Powder" is also stamped on it. Based on the serial #519045 I think it was made in 1910. Boyond that I don't know much.
Is this a 1894 model 94?? Also, it came with a Marble Tang mount peep sight, any idea how it flips up? I tried but not sure how it works,
Lastly, I'd like to replace the saddle ring and the sight is also missing from the barrel so I'd like to replace that. Who sells parts for these that are period specific??
Thanks for any help you can give me, I appreciate it.
Frank

Looks to be a Model 1894 Eastren Carbine
The rear sight that is missing is a flip up sight.
You are right with the date.
The Marbles Tang sight should just flip up forward. Is it rusted?
The reason you can't find the Model is because it's under the Marbles sight on the tang of the gun.
Just the Marbles sight is worth way over a $100.00
Here is one to look at...

Here is a sight that has the ring and the sight...

Hope this helps

MOSSYOAK1957 is correct except that it is a Saddle Ring Carbine, missing the ring as you stated. Eastern Carbines had no provisions for a saddle ring. The missing rear sight would have been a carbine sight that can fold up with a sliding blade that can be adjusted for different ranges. They are also fairly hard to come across and usually cost quite a bit. Since it has the tang sight you may just want to get an older sight blank filler or buy a new one and age it a bit so it blends with the finish on the barrel.
Looks like a nice old carbine, congrats!

Here is a picture of what the rear sight would look like

Thanks guys, this has been helpful in figuring out what I have. Salvo thats a fine looking rifle. I will need to see about getting the proper sight and saddle ring.
Thanks again.

I found this write up don't know if it's correct or not.

The last Eastern Carbines were shipped in 1925. After that they were all made standard "sans saddle ring" so no differentiation was made in the factory terminology.

The period in which EASTERN CARBINES were shipped ran only from 1905 (starting at serial #300000) for only 20 years to 1925 (ending with serial #958700). Before 1905, and after 1925, no differentiation was made between those carbines that were shipped to the East and to the West. Eastern carbines were the result of realizing that most people in the East did not need a Saddle Ring, so the studs and rings were left off. This saved money and late in 1925 the decision was made to ship all carbines without Saddle Rings. A carbine with a Saddle Ring could be Special Ordered.

Nice gun. To flip up the Marbles sight, there is a little catch on the front of the "knuckle"(where it rotates on the base). Pull this out while pressing down on the sight a bit. It will then flip up under spring pressure. To lock the sight back down again, fold the sight back down and push the catch in.

The model designation is stamped on top of the tang, which the sight base is covering up.
