My wife and I attended the Orange County Kalifornia Crossroads of the West Gun Show on Sunday and I was shocked to see AR's for sale everywhere! I had no knowledge of recent developments in AR's and the LAW! As many of you know, the once Golden State did not rescind the assault weapons ban, but punishes it's citizens with ongoing draconian legislation aimed at reducing crime. Well, AR's with detachable magazines are once again legally sold in Kalifornia if the replacement of the magazine requires a "tool". A re-designed mag release requires poking a recessed button with a "tool", a bullet seated in a case/round will release the mag. Or a chopstick. Brilliant! Buy 'em while you can!

enjoy it while it lasts. I have family in CA and I try to stay up to date on the laws as they relate to firearm ownership.

It's likely that the CA govt will ban the "bullet button" as I've heard it called. The ban will of course be retro active and lower receivers with this feature that are already in civilian hands will not be grandfathered in any way and will either have to be turned in, sold out of state or otherwise dismantled/destroyed.

That's how the CA govt does things. How long this will take is anyone's guess but be prepared.

Wonder if it's legal to buy a normal mag release online...
In any case, be careful in the Republik, but a neat find for sure.

For a defensive rifle in CA, I think the way to go is Mini-14, or M1 Carbine or Saiga.

+1. I'd choose any of them over an AR, anyway.

Too late for that...I picked up a S&W lower a couple months back & am picking up a gently used upper this weekend. a friend of mine had a mini 14 & it shot like crap. I do like M-1's they ARE fun... but IMO the .223's a much more versatile round & the AR is a much more versatile platform.

someone should make a finger tip cup w/ the "tool" built into it.
