Just put a 2x7 scope on my dads 99F 300 Savage (first season with a scope), that and my 12ga pump with a slug barrel are the two deer guns I have. I feel like I'm plenty equiped in the firepower dept.

I have several rifles that I might use depending on where I'm hunting that day, but the one that seems to get the most use is my plain old wood-stocked Rem 700 ADL in 7mm Rem mag with a 4-16x scope. It's accurate and it works well at both short range and long range, which explains why it gets used quite a bit.

Used to be a NEF handi in 243, before that a Savage 110 in 7mm RemMag. If I were to make the pick on what I have NOW either a Beretta 1200FP 12ga with slugs or (more likely) a T/C Contender in 7-30Waters. After Friday I'll own a CF rifle. It will be my goto for anything not small game/fur bearer - Rem 7400 syn in 30-06. I'm not sure what sight I'll put on it either a 2.5x scope or peep sight with a red fiberoptic front sight.

It works like my Beretta AL-2 and 12ooFP.

this year I will try my new (to me anyway) 260 stainless\synthetic Browning A-bolt with a German Post Leupold 3x9 BUT.....my go to gun is still my CZ 550 American .270 with a 6x42 Meopta Artemis post & duplex. I still do love to grab my first love, my 6mm ADL with the pretty wood and simple Weaver 6x.

Was a Marlin guy for a while, but now I will stick to my Savage 99 DL in .308. I doubt I will ever carry anything else. My old man has a few .358s that are appealing though. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

My go-to gun for the past few years has been my SS Ruger MKII 300 Win Mag.About the only load through this rifle has been a 180 Ballistic Tip with RL-22.The Leupold 3.5-10x50mm is my favorite scope.
If I need to lend out a rifle, this is the one i give. When I lend it out,I use my SS Ruger 338 Win Mag w/ a Burris scope. The 338/200gr Ballistic Tip with RL-19 was used in my longest deer shot ever.

Well I must be the only sick one around. My go to gun for the last 7-8 years has been my .375-.358STA (250gr Sierra's @ 3080fps). This year it got replaced by a 1/2" shooting .416 Rem Mag. A buddy has already taken his deer with it this year @ 359yds with one shot to the neck. It's a Rem 700SS with a 26" number 7 Lilja in a Sendero HS Precision stock shooting 350gr Speers @ 2625fps. I shot mine in a early season draw @ 809yds with one shot from my Rem 700 SS, Lilja HV fluted, HS Precision stocked 300RUM using 180gr Nosler BT's @ 3350fps.

for 20+ years I didn't have much choice - or any complaints, either. Ruger M77 7mm Mag with a Brownign B92 in .44 Mag for a backup.

Then I made a "mistake" and picked up a used Marlin 375 (.375 Win) about 3 years ago. That lead a year later to a Marlin .45-70. Both have been blooded, a buck antelope for the .375 and a 6x6 bull elk for the .45-70.

This last January I made another "mistake" and picked up a used but-like-new Ruger M77 in .257 Roberts. Little recoil and very accurate, I'm thinking this will be my deer rifle come December's late season.

But for elk this year, I'm taking the 7mm Mag again, with the .45-70 as my backup/woods/rainy weather gun.

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.

A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

A cheap and ugly Rem. 700 plastic stock Wal-Mart special in 30-06 . Glass bedded , barrel floated & fire lapped & recrowned . Magazine rails , feed ramp , fireing pin , bolt shroud , ect ... all polished to a mirror finish . Heavier after market fireing pin spring . Trigger tuned to perfection . Rings lapped . Leupold 3x9 Vari 2 . Hand loaded 180gr. Sierra's loaded down to 308 velocity to cut down on blood-shot meat . All smithed by me .
This rifle has taken a beating but takes a licking and keeps on ticking like a timex watch . Dispite the abuse it still a moa rifle and maintains its zero . The only improvement I can think of , is that it needs to be rust proof . I have to rub it down with oil often . Maybe I'll get it plated after most of the blueing rubs off .

BRNO ZKK 601 30-06, 4-12x40 Simmons. Consistent .5moa with 130 - 180gr bullets. Shoots 110gr - 180gr bullets to within .5" of POA. Take a hand full of mixed ammo, including Federal Premium 165gr factory and shoot a 5 shot 1moa group. I love this rifle.

I'm new to the forum & just want to say hello to everyone.

I've been shooting a M96 6.5x55 for the past several years, but got a new "go to" gun this spring. It's a Browning BAR in 30-06. I've been handloading for it all spring & summer and have worked loads for 180Gr Sierra Game Kings, 180Gr Nosler Ballistic tips and 165Gr Nosler Partitions, all on top of IMR4831. She's shooting sub MOA (avg 3/4") groups with all three loads.

She will be loaded with the Partitions this season which starts here in Arkansas Nov 13TH.......Can't wait to see how she does on game.

firstshot,

Welcome to the campfire.......sounds like you have a good load(s) worked up for the '06. IMO, you can never go wrong with a Partition.

Good luck,

I am probably going to mostly carry my new (this year) sucks 700 SPS in 270WSM. Will be shooting 140 Accubonds.

Also will probably carry my pre-64 mod 70 in '06. Will shoot the excellent Speer 165 Deep Shock.

Tony
