Is it true that you don't need to lube the case when you are using carbide dies?

Semi-true. I've never lubed a pistol case.

If you are loading a tapered case like the .30carbine, you may need to lube every fifth one.

I lube every half dozen or so cases with a touch of Imperial as it makes the operation go smoother. Lubeing is not a must with carbide though, and I`ve buddies that think I`m nuts for doing it.

Never lubed a straight wall case for CB dies. Haven't had any stick.

+1... Not to be silly... BUT Be sure they are Carbide Dies

I still lube my Horn 480 Ruger dies... Horn. said they were Carbide but the box or paperwork that came with the dies don't... so I still lube them

When I started reloading for centerfire, straight walled, pistol cases, I lubed 'em. I don't any more. I do use carbide dies for my straight walled pistol cases.

Hornady uses titanium nitride instead of silicon carbide. Both accomplish the same things and neither require lube of any kind. Except for the added mess lube doesn't hurt anything though, either. But don't fear sticking a case while using the dies dry. It won't happen.
