I got drawn to hunt in Montana this fall and have ordered national forest maps but would like to narrow the search some by looking at topo's on-line. What sites have you all used in the past? Thanks in advance.

Might try GoogleEarth too, just for kicks- you can print those off at home, and even take them into Kinko, or Mailbox Etc. and have them blown up and copied in color.

No mention of scale,.......

is it just me ,....or are " 1 to 25's " getting hard to find?

smallest available here are 1 to 50.

local book store sells the topo maps for all of Florida. I just pull them out of a drawer and take them to the cashier. $7 each.

Our camp is right by the edge of one standard map and just off the adjacent map.
With mytopo I was able to get the area I wanted without having to tape two maps together. The waterproof paper stands up a lot better that the regular paper maps as well.

Ain't that how it goes. I download the relevant quads (.tiff) for free from Libre Map project, load them all into Global Mapper, which is free for all the functionality I need and can be downloaded here

ftp://ftpext.usgs.gov/pub/cr/mo/rolla/viewers/dlgv32pro/

They come up in global mapper with proper register so all you have to do is remove the white borders. You do that with "tools->control center->options->cropping->crop to manually specified lat/lon boundaries" The default values are what you want so just click OK and you now have a larger seamless topo map.
