Just traded into a 336RC 30-30 and am looking for a place to look up the S/N and get the age of the rifle. It is a pre-crossbolt safety model and pre D & T model. A link would be great.

They both agree that it is a 1951.
I got this as a donor action for a 356 project. There is some light pitting on the barrel and mag tube. There is also some heavier pitting on the left side of the receiver. The stock has been shortened 1" when compared to my 1959 336RC.
Is there any collector value to this??
Is the '51 metal strong enough for the 356??
What is the resale value of the ballard rifled barrel if I go ahead with the conversion??

Unless is has a straight stock and was in 35 Rem it would not hold much value with the pitting and shortened stock. It should be a solid rifle still and just as strong as a new Marlin 336. You might want to shoot it before you convert it. Those old Ballard rifled Marlins are often wonderful shooters.

I'll amen that. Got a 1955 .30-30 SC with the ballard rifling. It does great with jacketed and I've just started working with cast bullets and mid-range loads but initial results are looking very promising.

I would send it over to Jes in Eugene, Or and have him rebore and chamber it to your caliber. He is one of the best at converting Marlins.
