Buy a Remington, and it won't need anything but a scope & mounts. It's pretty tough to make them shoot better. This is one of the times it's really too bad Big Stick isn't around here any more. Of course, he's only owned a few hundred Remingtons, so you might still argue with him. Now that would be fun to watch... Dennis

What about bullets? will it need them? I'd suggest Core-Lokts. Don't forget the $5.00 a box rebate.

Core-Lok's are to expensive. I'd suggest cast especially if you do alot of long range shooting. Great for Rino too.

My best groups have always been with IMR4831, but it depends on the rifle. I can't seem to make my 700 shoot poorly.

Pretty good entertainment! I hope you are right. The thought of somebody that is that silly in woods with a gun just scares the hell out of me.

Pretty good entertainment! I'm thinking this guy either works for Remington, or has suffered a blow to the noggin at some point.

I bought my first Remington when I was 6 years old for $10.00. It was a 514 Boy's Rifle. I still have the 514 that belonged to my father. It shoots great.
The 700 Remington is the best centerfire rifle you can buy. The 870 is the best shotgun you can buy.
They don't need tweakin'.

Time to get the dogs and a search party....this boy is lost in the woods.. The 700 is very good and possibly great...very far from the best centerfire rifle you can buy. keep dreamin on the tweaking part though...been enough evidence given to you already by many, time for you to fetch a clue. CLB

I traded into this rifle from a fellow poster. He warned me the rifle could not shoot worth a crap. I knew better.... 700 Ti 260 re-chambered to 6.5x284 showing two 3 shot groups shot back to back. Been over 2 dozen Remingtons in my stable. With every one I could handload them to shoot groups like this with only a trigger job. I guess i'm just lucky...not.

It's pretty tough to make them shoot better. uuuuuuuuhhhhhhmmm......had a couple of those that needed repairing, the point of my post. They, yes, the Remingtons, benefited from an influx of "repair" money....beyond scopes and mounts. One of them, heaven forbid, was an M700, in .308, no less. It was tough to make that one shoot worse....

Just spent the time to read this whole thread. I am here on the campfire to learn. My post count/time registered says the same thing. I will post on a topic that I have either expperience or a real interest in.
I must say that swampman700 is absolutely the most simpleminded person I have had the opportunity to meet on any forum(spoken OR typed.)
I have owned one remington 700(a 35 Whelen)and can say for certain that it shot well enough to kill elk. After I took a channel rasp to it, it shot well enough to kill gophers at the far end of Whelen usefulness. In hindsight I should have sold it cuz there is no way it could have killed that many elk as it was defective and I should have received a new rifle.

I just fitted up the new stocks & these rifles look great. I'll post some pics when I get the chance.
If you like to tinker Remingtons aren't a good choice. But please keep tinkering. I buy rifles all the time that have been boogered up by shade tree gunsmiths. Usually an as new Remington walnut stock is all they need to get them shooting again. Free floating often makes them shoot worse.
