well if you can find any, the 50 cc hondas are a good bike to start with. the problem is that some greenie do gooder fruit cakes slipped a fast one past the masses earlier this year. Do a search on google about youth motorcycles and include the words "lead ban"
see there were some lead import rules passed recently that were supposed to be designed to keep toys from being imported that contained lead. Makes sense right? we don't want out toddlers chewing on toys that are full of lead.
Well it ened up also capturing the youth oriented atv's & dirt bikes. Even the big names like honda & yamaha.
Of course those little bikes have some lead in them somewhere, be it in the metal content in the engine castings, maybe in the sparkplugs, maybe in a soldered wiring harness... so the government is protecting our kids from these youth atvs & dirt bikes because they know our kids like to chew on dirt bikes....
So, dealers are sitting on inventory that they can not sell because of these laws. I don't know how long it will take to get straightened out but for the time being your only option is to buy used from private party.
check craigs list for honda 50 crf or honda 50 xr
if they seem too small for your boys then check out the 70 crf / 70 xr
the crf/xr is the same bike, they just changes the model name a bit in recent years.
Something clever here.

Well, in that case I'd say take dave's advice. Get yourself a coupe Honda or yammi 4 stroke bikes and turn them loose. If they offer you a saftey class when you buy, which they will if you buy from a dealer...take it.
oh yeah, have fun.

Fall is coming up on us fast. Only 7 1/2 more weeks until the bull Elk hunt here. Only 9 1/2 more weeks until the deer opener here. Do you feel it? Your heart beats a little quicker, your breath a bit more shallow, you find it hard to concentrate... And so it begins.

Month away from ND muley bowhunt for me!!!! Could actually go Labor Day weekend this year but I had the brains to push the trip back a week or two.
See, I've pulled that stunt a couple times before and well lets just say the wife was not very impressed. Seems our anniversary is on the 6th of September and her birthday is the 8th and I've learned the hard way that "oh it don't matter. Just go hunting and not worry about it. REALLY honey it don't matter" ACTUALLY means that it does INDEED matter! It matters A LOT!!!

What lake? For cash or trophies?
Good luck.
Maybe those boards will be all up for you when you get home.

Good luck tomorrow Dave. Hope the eyes are on a bite.
Just saw the weather report for central WI. Small stream flood warnings this morning. Two to five inches of rain predicted.

We got 3-4" over night. We have a leaky roof in our office right now. Sunday is suposed to storm pretty good. I'm thinking of hitting the lake tomorrow, should be pretty hot with the front coming in.

That should bring the lakes up Tom. We're scheduled to get in to CWA around 9:30 Saturday night. Checked the forecast for OHare and it looks ok so with any luck we should make it in ok.

That's a heck of a good crew you've got there Dave. At the rate their going they might even get the boards up by the end of the day.
