Most of my loads for my deer hunting rifles I use IMR 4831 powder. For bullets this year I'm going switch to Barnes 180 gr. triple shock bullets. In my Barnes reloading book they had the best luck with H4831SC. I want to experiment with something different, has anybody out there had any good luck with any particular powder?

Back when I loaded for the 300 Wby. I found good results with IMR7828 and 180 grain bullets.

I've had good luck with H1000, every load I tried got me .5-1" at 100 yards in my old Vanguard Sporter. Below is one of my typical groups using H1000 powder. The bullets I used were Hornady 178 grain A-max's.

I get sub-MOA with 82 gr of IMR-7828, Rem brass, 180 gr Partition or Hornady, Fed GM mag primer. You might be abe to go up to 85.0 gr in Weatherby brass.

I use surplus WC-860 powder (similar to AA8700 or H-870). Fed 215 primer and a Hornady 190gr or Sierra 200gr. Shoots about .75 MOA.

I've been shooting the 300 for about 25 years. When I first started, I used MRP and H-4831 using data from the old Weatherby Guide. It even gave you a "factory equivalent load" (81.5 MRP). When RL-22 came around, it practically identical to MRP so I use them interchangeably. IMR 7828 will yield a bit more velocity, but I get factory specs 3250 or so with MRP or 22 and 180gr bullets. jorge

A good principle to guide me through life: “This is all I have come to expect, standard lackluster performance. Trust nothing, believe no one and realize it will only get worse…”
