The banner is a cheap scope not an inexpensive scope. It is notorious for losing zero, poor tracking, unclear glass and poor light transmition.

Whatever a 7x57 can do a 270 can do better.

True fair chase is you in the woods buttnaked with nothing but your finger nails and teeth.

If you'e fixin' to put a hole in something, make it a hole to remember.

If he's gonna shoot elk a .30-06 would be best. A Remington 700 topped with a Bushnell 3200 Elite 3-9X40 would be perfect. The Burris Zee rings are excellent & trouble free.

Walmart carries the laminated stock 700ADL. I really like it for the money.

The scope could quite easily shift it's POI and he could be hitting several feet from where he's aiming.

One thing you get a lot of here is "advice",and it is usually very good.

Dump the Banner.Find a solid used Leupold 4X,mount it and go hunting.

When/if the Banner craps out, it's going to be hard to beat a Burris Fullfield II or Bushnell 3200 for the max $$ he'll want to spend. Midsouth Shooters Supply has both all day for less than $190.

The Nikon Prostaff series are also excellent. The cheapest place to buy a new scope is ebay.

As Swampman700 says Nikon Prostaff is an excellent buy, usually on Ebay,I purchased my 3x9x40 BDC for $114.00 no tax and no shipping.I have two of theses rifle scopes and one is on my Tikka T3 Lite .308. I think Nikon Prostaff scopes can't be beat for the price. I shot three deer last year with this combination at the same time 1 Buck and two does. I had three shots and three deer.

I've had a Banner with BDC on my .300 Savage for the last six years and have never had a problem. I go to the range each year before hunting season and have never had to readjust it. It's sighted in at 100 yds (since my shots are usually in that range) and the BDC is dead on at 200 and 250 yds.

One of my favorite clothing patterns is camouflage. Because when you're in the woods it makes you blend in. But when you're not it does just the opposite. It's like "hey, there's an a__hole." - Demetri Martin
