Helped the SIL rebait his bear sites today. We passed a truck on the way to camp with a guy training his bear dogs. We were just about to unload the ATV when my SIL saw a dog wearing a transmitter collar come out of the woods. We figured it belonged to the guy we had just seen so we tried to get the dog to come to us.

The dog stayed near by but wouldn't come to us. Than we noticed a large gash on it's side. About that time the owner was coming down the road and we were able to get his attention. He stopped and called the dog. It was than that we saw another gash on the other side. Seems that the dog had tangled with a bear and lost.
He loaded the dog in the truck and took off for the vets office.

Funny...wasn't like that though. At least from my end. That was Jim's little "friend". Not mine.

Opens the 16th for bait hunters Tom. Dogs have the first week (9/06) this year. The biggest bears we have on camera are coming from Rusk county so we'll most likely start there. The site in Sawyer county has more activity, but the bears have been smaller.

There are lots of bears in Sawyer Co. too many.

About a month ago,I was going for a walk, up at our camper in Hawyard. A mama with 3 cubs popped out of the brush and ran across the road in front of me. That is the second set of mom and 3 cubs I've seen up there.

Rusk Co gets some big bears every year I think. How often do you guys run up there to bait?

Dave, is that a Vogelzang wood burner? Looks just like the one we have at out camp.

Looks like you're using coleman lanterns too. The local BP bulk plant here sells white gas in bulk for $4.75 a gallon. Sure beats the nearly $9 a gallon at Fleet Farm.
