Thanks everyone for their prayers for Cole. Carly's parents (my aunt and uncle) rented an apartment down there for the year for everyone to stay at. It was too hard living out of a hotel room. We are going to load up my trailer with their stuff this week and move them down there.
I did hear from Jon (the dad) that he wants to start my house in mid sept. I thought that is really good to hear in that he is starting to think about other things. I think it will work out well because of the fact we are such close family, if he needs to go to the cities, i have no issues with him stopping work. Not like a typical client.
As far as what people can do....well pray. That is the biggest thing right now. One other thing that will be coming up is a benefit. I dont have any details or anything, but as you can imagine, the expenses are enormous. So maybe start thinking if you know some person or business who might at some time be willing to donate to a benefit for Cole. One last thing, go hug your kids and do something with them.
I dont want to turn Camp Chickenbuck into a thread for Cole, but I will give an update now and again to keep you informed of how he is doing. From the medical side, he will have some tests in a week or so to see how the chemo and radiation have worked.

I think I speak for all when I say, "thank goodness we can't smell that one". So one of the things I like to do is last cast when I am fishing. Tues nite, Mrs Berettaman (man, she would hate that title...), says it is time to go. I tell Lauren, "one last cast Honey". I then turn to the Mrs and say, it sure would be nice to have one more crappie and flip out my tube jig. Bang. A fat 11 incher inhales the tube and takes a place in the livewell. Ahh, I love country life! Fishing on a Tuesday nite!!!

I wish I had a savage 99, not in the cards for me now though, unless I find a cheap shooter, and someone who would be willing to trade. not likely!

i know one thing, an auction sale is the wrong place to try & buy a 99.
that's for damn sure.

What kind of 99 are you all looking for? The pawn shops around here are thick with them.
Heck even the highway 2 veggie stand between Bemidji and Bagley has them, all sorts of different flavors.
Seriously from roughly Sept thru December you can find them I want to say the prices were around 400 to 750.

my dad has an exquisite 99 made in 1936 IIRC in a 300 savage, it is beautiful, but I think its been reblued since the lever should be case hardened. Les has seen it, and wants to buy it last I talked to him, but its been a while. I think dad wants 600 for that one

Remember the little combo gun (Over & under) that Savage made. I think they're model 24's. They sold for around $100 25 years ago. I saw a basic 22, 20 guage combo go for $395 at a gun show last weekend. There was a delux model priced at well over $600.

local pawn shop has one for sale. .300, cracked stock and all. It can be yours for the asking price of $700. I offered $450 on tuesday, and about got thrown out on my ear.

yeah, that's the problem with 99's
IMO you gotta find a private party willing to accept a little more down to earth price.
I really think i'd rather buy one from one of our own savage loonies in the savage section of our forums here.
See, I aint looking to take advantage of someone who don't know what they've got. But I also don't want to give $800 to some "expert" at a pawn shop for some rat 99 just because he knows there's a serious following for the 99's.
I figure if I bought from one of our own actual experts I'd learn about what I was buying & I'd pay the appropriate price.

I generally go to about 3 gunshows a year and see very few 99's here in central Wisconsin. There's a big show at Oshkosh this weekend. I'll keep an eye open for a decent 99 if I go.
