Trade a 2004 Arctic Cat 500 4X4 for this turck? I have a guy who wants to trade me his 88 Toyota 4X4 for my 4 wheeler. The truck has been converted to straight front axle and has been converted to a 4.3 Vortec V-6. 5 speed tranny. A/C and everything is working fine. The motor was a new crate engine and has less than 3000 miles on it. Lifted with 33" BFG's. Since I only use the 4 wheeler during deer season and could use the truck all year I'm considering the trade. Pic of the truck is attached. Guy has over 12K in the truck and all of the conversions were professionally done. What would you do? Drop
I think I would have to pass on the idea. Mechanically it sounds like a great truck but it does not look that great does it? (May be the picture) We all know what a guy puts into something he lucky to get half back on. Your Arctic Cat is probably worth more in the long run in my opinion. Either way you will have a great rig to hunt in/on Good luck in the decision
I'd trade it. Just look at how much more exercise you'd get with out the 4 wheeler and if/when the truck breaks down. Plus, IMO a small pickup is much more ulitarian than a 4 wheeler. If not for a daily driver, I like to have a spare vehichle around and you wouldn't have to cringe if that one got scratched.
Yeah, that's only beacause you think factory engineers are the end all.
I on the other hand think factory vehicles (and guns too) make too many compromises--most of which have to do with the company's perceived profit margin--and greatly benefit from re-engineering. My truck is greatly improved from it's factory form, and better than any factory-stock truck in it's class.
Having said that, I really need to know the guy doing the re-engineering if it's someone other than me......................
However, I know of no one in their right mind who would willingly swap a toyota engine for a GM gasser. That right there would make me suspect the guy doing the "engineering" wasn't of sound mind.
Upgrading vehicles by swapping in GM engines is actually a very common practice, and has been for many years.
I once had a 74 Jag XJ-12L that already had the conversion to a 350. I built a new engine for it and changed the tranny from the TH 350 it had to a 700 R4. The car ran harder, got better mileage, was more reliable, and way easier to maintain than with the V-12.
The 240Z was originally designed for a Chevy 302, but GM bailed on the deal at the last minute. it didn't take long for the hot rodders to figure this out, and a small blocked chevy equipped 240, 260, or 280Z is monster of a sports car.
Howevr, I do agree that a botched conversion is a very bad thing.........
The guy with the truck obviously thinks your four wheeler is better than his truck.

Actually he needs a wheeler to take Elk hunting. I'm going in a different direction though. A guy I work with has offered me a 1990 Toyota 4X4 and $2500 for the 4 wheeler and I'm taking that deal instead. Drop
Sounds like a good deal. Those Toyotas sure have a following and a good name. Personally never owned one, hope to change that soon
