I have a Blackhawk thigh holster for the Beretta 92. I've never used it. I've put it on a few times with my 92 in it and it just felt clumsy and like it would get in the way. My son gave it to me after his last trip to Afghanistan and I keep it more as a keepsake than anything. I don't know how much he used it over there either. The Navy let him buy whatever he wanted for deployments and in all the pictures I've seen of him over there he was carrying his pistol in a chest holster.

Tom, it does not interfere or entangle with you bp straps. Keep in mind that these holsters were used extensively by soldiers who wore their rifle belts with the suspenders and oft times a rucksack too. BTDT in RVN and they are comfortable and the gun is always with you as required. Thanks much! Sounds like a good solution to my problems. The Badlands 2200 is not such a bad back if I'm only carrying a rifle, but for my summer scouting / varmint trips where I'm out with a dink caliber rifle and want the .44 along because I'm dealing with semi wild livestock (nothin' like bein' run up on a tall stump by a "ringy" range bull that wants to stomp your butt to reset your priorities) the wide belt on the 2200 is a show stopper. I've got a smaller pack I use for that because I hadn't found a better solution, but it doesn't carry much. Tom

A chest holster is not an option. As I would think it would be in the way of my binoculars that are on my chest in a bino harness system.

My revolver, carried in a 1942 Tanker holster, does interfere with chest mounted binos. But then again, I don't have to glass when handgun hunting.

A chest holster is not an option. As I would think it would be in the way of my binoculars that are on my chest in a bino harness system. From ALL of the photos I've seen, the Tanker isn't a "chest holster" in the truest sense of the term. It's off to the side and lower, so binos should ride just fine. In colder weather the Tanker could ride inside your jacket and the binos on the outside.

I have a Bianchi like this: I almost never wear it. A thigh holster is ok, but not the best thing out there. Problem is, for me anyway, nothing works perfect, backpack or binocular straps in the way, thigh holster hitting stuff while you're scrambling over logs or through brush, I just don't know. I now wear a Bianchi Lawman with a Ruger Blackhawk on a second "cartridge" belt. Still, nothing really works well.
Deserve's got nothing to do with it.

I tried a tactical holster last year when i was hunting for srping brown bear. I thought this thing would be the answer to my prayers, it ended up being more of a nightmare. I kept having to adjust it and I eventually cut off the upper thigh strap leaving just the lower one. It only got worse then just fell apart on me. I now pack my 44 in on a belt holster, I don't run the belt through my belt loops, just kind of let it hang down some and tie off the holster to my leg with a piece of rawhide. I agree with acesandeights, I don't think there's anything out there that's perfect for carrying while back pack hunting.
That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

AkMtnHntr,
That's almost exactly what I do now. I wear a belt for my pants, but bought another belt/cartridge belt that I carry my .44 on and it's independent of my pants so I can kind of make it a low ride or pull it higher and tighter depending. Otherwise nothing fits the bill.
