Hi,
I am brand new to this forum and wouldn't you know I placed my first question to the wrong place.

Anyway, here is my question. I have a Winchester 1894 in 38-55 caliber. I have the Winchester book and also have the letter from the Winchester Museum and I go to as many gun shows as I can but still can't find the answer to my question. How much do the special order features add to the value of the gun? This gun is in super condition and in fact I started all three of my children hunting with it. This gun was loved for a long time before I got it. My kids all called it the pop gun because it didn't make much of a crack when it went off. It is really light weight and just feels like a kids gun. It has seven special order features on it. When I see other Winchester they have one or maybe two special features but none with as many as this one. Can someone help?

Thanks,
Big Ralph

You have told us absolutely nothing. No one in their right could guess at what you have let alone place a value on it. At least you could post a copy of the factory letter.

Thanks BR,

The letter should also state the date received into the warehouse.

Yours is a very special Winchester and worth a substantial amount of money, depending on condition and originality. As such you will need a competent appraiser to determine a value. Actual value will be whatever someone is willing to pay. A 90% condition original gun could easily be in the 4 to 6K range. Any alterations (like scope mounting, refinish/reblue, or other changes) would cut that value by 50 to 90 percent. An appraiser will have to make a hands on evaluation to even come close on value.

Find an appraiser in your area and pay his fee, it's worth it. Sorry we cannot be more help but even a standard 94 with no options is difficult without a hands-on examination.

AS soon as I get my camera working I will post some pics, It is all original. No alterations or refinishing. The letter from the museum did also say received in warehouse March 28, 1905, Shipped March 30, 1905. I bought it about 35 years ago when I was working in a small general store that also had a gun section. Paid $ 125.00 for it, but at the time, that was a pretty good buck. I just like the feel of it.

Looking forward to seeing pictures. I have a couple of pre-war 94s too. One with folding leaf express sights original from the factory.
