I've been enjoying shooting my .450/400 #1 with Trail Boss loads. I do note a problem with my "seasoned" eyes in not being able to focus on the small bead of the standard Ruger front sight. Ruger has no wide replacements available- does anybody know any sources for a nice wide (0.10" or greater width) Sourdough-type front sight for Ruger rifles? Thanks GWW

You might google "necg" for New England Custom Gun and look at their front sight offerings for Ruger to see if any suit. Their front sights are available from several sources in addition to their own site, as well as Brownells, Midway.

Thanks Mr. r, I found out on looking at their site that NECG for some reason only makes a fairly narrow (0.080") Sourdough front sight to fit the Ruger. I will keep on searching!

I bought the NECG Ruger white bead from Brownells for my Ruger #1's in .35 Whelen and .405 Win...I love it!...If you can't find a wide Sourdough you mite give the white bead a try...

The NECG Sourdough is quite easy for my half-century plus eyes to see. I do prefer the white-line blade that XS makes which is integral with their own ramp (for various rifles other than Ruger #1). But the Sourdough blade is not wimpy either. It what I use - filed down quite a bit- on mine when I use the irons. I must admit that I have begun to enjoy a bit of glass in the form of the Weaver 2.5X. I have that scope on two of my #1s.

Mr. K- You're fortunate that the NECG sight still works for you. I have experimented using tape in that sight's width on the Ruger front sight and as I said it is too narrow for me to be able to focus on it. So lucky for you but for me it is no answer. Any other suggestions for a wide sight would be appreciated.
