Fellow Campfire Members;
We had our youth season opener on September 1st and although I took the day off work and did my part for global warming by burning a fair quantity of diesel, we came home without meat.
We went out Friday night and spotted a decent bear but couldnt close the deal with him so again no meat. Our eldest had other stuff on the go Saturday, but early Saturday morning, our youngest dropped this when a 100gr. Hornady out of her .250AI hit his neck at about 150yds. It was the only shot available and she made it work.
We pounded the mountains flat Saturday night and again Sunday after church, but only burned copious amounts of diesel one more time.
This morning nobody was into rolling out early with me, so we went on an afternoon run one valley to the west.
We ran into this fellow, which our eldest thought would do nicely, so she planted a 130TSX out of her 6.5x55 into his shoulder, as per my wishes. He didnt go far and she insisted that she be allowed to gut him, which was a first for her and cool for me.
Note the empty case between her fingers of the left hand...she's keeping the brass like I asked her to.
We had no sooner loaded him and made about 2 km up the washed out logging road when we spotted a group of does and two bucks, this one being the one that stood away from the group at about 150yds.
Again the little 100gr. Hornady broke both shoulders and again he didnt make it very far at all.
It looks like Ill be away from the Campfire cutting meat for the next few evenings, as our cooler is a little stuffed.
Anyway, that's our season so far, which has been beyond my wildest dreams for certain. As a hunting father, I really couldn't ask for better than this and I'm very grateful as I know I've been blessed.
Thanks for looking and all the best to you all in your upcoming hunts.
Regards,
Dwayne
